I have two installations of freebsd 13.2 on two different disks. Both with MBR & UFS
disk 1: win10/freebsd without bootloader (freebsd)
disk 2: freebsd with bootloader
How could I make disk 2 that has the bootloader, find muy others disk installations and boot from?
I have a machine which previously dual-booted Windows 10 and GhostBSD, using rEFInd (which was installed by the GhostBSD installer). I'm trying to wipe the machine and install a fresh copy of FreeBSD 13.1 as the only OS on the machine. (I used GhostBSD to figure out some hardware stuff and...
I recently decided to move my FreeBSD installation onto a new drive. Since I was using ZFS, I achieved this by inserting the new drive, and then using the memstick installer on a USB drive to perform a basic install. After this I dropped to a shell, unmounted all the destination datasets...
Hi everyone, I'm trying to install FreeBSD 13.0 on a vendor appliance that is almost a standard hardened server.
the problem I am having is that the appliance only has two serial ports and no video port/hardware(as far as I can see).
I can connect to the device via console, configure the bios...
I'm experimenting with geli encryption on a spare laptop.
I've activated ZFS root encryption from the FreeBSD installer.
I'm using a french keyboard layout.
After POST, Geli prompts me for the passphrase with a US keyboard layout. That's annoying.
I've set the...
We are seeing a menu with FreeBSD logo and FreeBSD ball devil on boot. I want to change codes that running when we select a boot option. I already checked /boot. I saw menu.rc and loader.rc but I want to change codes that running when selected an option. So how?
Some information about my...
Hi guys. I must admit I am starting to lose it :D
I have been investigating FreeBSD internals the last week and it really looks like magic to me. First thing I want to state my objectives. I want to build a sort of live/ro/non tamperable installation of FreeBSD. I have investigated NomadBSD to...
I'm trying to upgrade an old computer of mine from FreeBSD 11.0 to 12.0-RELEASE. I ran freebsd-update -r 12.0-RELEASE upgrade then, after that succeeded, ranfreebsd-update install and tried to reboot. It started shutting down, but before restarting it got stuck in a state with text on the...
"getting pretty good at the openboot..." --famous last words.
So... I've tried to boot the ISO files burned to cdrom on my sparc64 in several several ways. no dice.
(iso's burned from linux w/ brasero & wodim)
As far as I can tell, the t4-1 niagara seems to be supported, (or at least not...
The Freebsd Handbook, section 12.2 on the boot process, contains a note that seems to state that Freebsd does not support direct UEFI booting.
The concern is that on our two Freebsd machines, the BIOS are set for UEFI.
The note reads:
Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks in advance.
I accidentally deleted the bootloader entry generated by FreeBSD's installer in my UEFI firmware. I used to see an entry, when I pressed F9 (which lists all available bootloaders), that pertained to FreeBSD, but I did some deleting with efibootmgr of bootloaders I didn't need anymore and I...
Well not to cause aflame war but what are everyone's thoughts? Forth versus Lua.
I am researching an old 1984 Byte magazine and I notice whole article about forth,
So it is an old-timer.
But to technical specifics, Isn't forth an interpreted language, not compiled, similar to Lisp.
Yesterday I installed FreeBSD on my laptop today when I turned on my computer it said dumping 10%..15%..etc
Then it says dumping successful then the computer restarts. What's wrong?
It worked yesterday
I have a computer on which the main OS is FreeBSD, while other OSes are installed on dedicated disks.
Is it possible to chainload the boot managers from the FreeBSD bootloader or do I have to rely on grub2 ?
If 1 is possible, then is it possible to map disks to make windows believe it...
I've been really pulling my hair out with this one. Got a bit of a tricky hardware setup with SATA1-4 as raidz3, and SATA5 as the encrypted ZFS root os disk: The caveat being that I cannot boot from this drive via the BIOS when SATA1-4 are installed, so I need to boot to an SD card and have that...
Hi everyone! This will be my first post on the FreeBSD forum (and, in fact, any forum anywhere). I've used Linux (mostly Debian and later Arch Linux) for most of my life on the computer, but for the last two years or so I've been using a Mac. I've become increasingly unhappy with the attitude of...
I'm trying to install FreeBSD 11 on the HP ProLiant Gen8 (G1610T). But it fails to boot on using the default FreeBSD bootloader. The drives as configured as AHCI devices via the BIOS. The boot drive is formated using a GPT partition table using the ZFS filesystem and the bootloader is set to...
My machine is a 64bit with GPT partition table and NO UEFI support.
I created 50GB partition and gave it to trueos in install. the installation create a zpool and all it wanted on that automatically.
Now is there a way to add TrueOS entry to FreeBSD boot loader which is installed on the next...
I've been using FreeBSD 9 on a fairly old computer based on Intel® DG45FC motherboard, with a Celeron 64bit CPU. After 3 years lying there gathering dust, I've decided to repurpose it and run the latest release.
So far, I've been unsuccessful at booting FreeBSD 10.3/11.0-RELEASE (AMD64)...
