Hello, after a problematic journey with drm-kmod, I finally managed to get wayland working on Renoir.
Currently, I am using Wayfire as my compositor, and everything works well.
Issue is, every time I try to start emacs GUI, the whole operating system hangs, with no possible input to kill it...
Here's what I tried to start kde5plasma on wayland:
#! /bin/sh
export XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland
ck-launch-session dbus-run-session /usr/local/bin/startplasma-wayland
#ck-launch-session dbus-run-session /usr/local/bin/startplasma-wayland.sh
And here's a small snippet of the running processes...
Dear community,
I am using sway-1.5.1_2 (Wayland) and wlsunset-0.1.0 (which is a Wayland equivalent to redshift) with i915 drm drivers. wlsunset is said to work with sway in principle.
While redshift is working fine under xorg with the drm driver, wlsunset runs without any error messages but...
I'm curious because it's a pretty unique combination with Wayland on FreeBSD. I've taken a look from time to time but never tried it myself (and I have to admit that I'm not even running FreeBSD yet, because I wanted to wait for "13" to give it a first spin on my new laptop).
For me the...
Adrian De Groot wrote this Blog post about his recent work on KDE on Wayland for FreeBSD.
I'm hyped to see the updates coming in pkg repo so one can enjoy a Wayland desktop experience on FreeBSD.
Prerequisites are
FREEBSD 13.0 64
Intel l915kms
Disabling sddm.
**Edit:**
As of 2021-05-13 with...
Before I just blow away my FreeBSD 13 Virtual Box instance, I thought I would check in with the gurus. I have been experimenting with FreeBSD 13 in VBox for a day. I used caution and bectl'd my way to a working system that had KDE installed. I removed my last bectl and then...

Hi everyone,
After successfully setup my workstation (FreeBSD 12.1/drm-kmod binary), i tried to install FreeBSD 12.2 on my Lenovo T495.

There was one good thing about IBM, Microsoft and Intel business activities in the past. Their goal was clear: to gain more market share, make more money and total annihilation of competitors. However nowadays it's a completely different story, especially in the open source and free software...

Can't find the tutorial! no any news and signal! But we see that the latest versions of Wayland and Plasma are already available in ports. How to make them work properly? How are things now?
That sentence caught my eye in the blog post Announcing the release of sway 1.0 by Drew DeVault, because I could not find any further information, tutorial or blog posts about installing, configuring and using Sway on FreeBSD.
Everything including the especially created tools (except one) is...
I found that I can compile a wayland client.
https://github.com/emersion/hello-wayland
The example above requires:
# pkg install ImageMagick7
# pkg install wayland-protocols
The usual edits to the Makefile apply - add "-I/usr/local/include" and "-L/usr/local/lib" to CFLAGS. Throw in a...
Hi,
Total noob here. I installed FreeBSD yesterday and would like to install Sway - the Wayland-based compositor and window manager.
I have installed the X Window System and can run i3 without any apparent issues but, if possible, I would like to run my graphical environment on top of Wayland...
