I used OSMand on a couple of trips when I didn't have data for the phone in question. It's perfectly serviceable.

I use Android Pixel phones.

Although the practical reasons why I chose Android over IOS have been disappearing one after another over the years. I might pick an iPhone next cycle.

I am impressed by how resistant IOS is against rooting. Wouldn't have thought that is would be possible to keep people out to this degree.

XNU memory safety in iOS is second to none. The memory enhancements in the new iPhone 17s and iOS 26 alone is a compelling reason to utilize one. Seems like the closest thing to CHERI on the market IMO.

These discussions are unfortunately a trigger for me, so lets just say I'm going back to a flip phone (text and voice only) when my current verizon contract is up.
