It's all drugs, isn't it. Yeah, maybe you didn't progress to the worse stuff, big deal. But you're not everyone, are you; its not only about you. And I don't think I have any problems on this, cryptic or otherwise.

On the other hand, I had a friend whose wife had severe MS, and he used to tell me it was the only thing that helped her control her pain and nausea. That was many years ago, I believe there are now prescription versions you can get for certain medical conditions, like MS; I think Sativex is one such https://www.mssociety.org.uk/living-with-ms/treatments-and-therapies/cannabis/sativex . The idea is to get the medical benefits, without all the toxicity.

And we must not ignore the respiratory damage, as you would get from smoking pretty much anything: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41089432/ , and an increased risk of lung and certain other cancers: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0169500226004824 . Just because it's not tobacco, doesn't mean it won't give you lung cancer.

Addiction is hard. On a humorous note: this bunch have learned the very difficult vertical sleep skill. These guys and girls are very talented vertical contortionists. :p

I don't think it's wrong to be not-sober, and I don't think it's fair to ask them to change. I don't think it's fair to tell someone they can't spend their life not-sober, either. I personally advocate for liberty (personal freedom without guilt), which sometimes includes addiction. We need to take responsibility for our lives, and that also means not excepting another life to change for our comfort. What I mean is that people react to their experience, and sometimes we (medicine) don't have the answers they need.

Some brain chemistries are prone to sadness while others joy. I think many times this is exaggerated by a lack of purpose. Most of us are and could be great at a few things, and this is why I think amphetamines (in combination with SSRI's and caffeine [which actually compliment each other pharmacologically]) are a reasonable alternative/compliment to addiction therapy.

Public safety is important. Living healthy is important. But, that's up to each of us to figure out when we decide to do that. In the meantime, we can enjoy them do the frontward Bernie.

 
Well, they've never tackled the biggest one of all, not since she was first discovered way back at the start of the modern age. The one hiding in plain sight, piled high in every shop in the land, proudly displayed in every window. The one the whole world adores and runs on. The one that causes liver cirrhosis and getting both your legs chopped off at the knee, heart disease, liver disease, cancer and dementia. The 'alcohol' that doesn't make you drunk, 'cause they left the hydroxyl group off the molecule. The thing that little kids jump up and down with excitement for, in anticipation of the 'hit', when Mum puts it in the shopping basket; in a way that they never do, for Bertie Broccoli and Cyril Carrot. The one that Eric Clapton said his chain of addictions started off with, right back at the start, and let's face it, he should know.

No, it's not Colin Caffeine, although you might be forgiven for thinking so, and it's not Barney Bubbles, either.
