I have a separate drive partitioned for swap use it does work currently thanks for the information, I would have not known this if I went the file route over the partitioned external drive

The first answer to that question works for me. Create a dedicated zfs for swap.

swap on zfs not optimal. It can be buggy. A separate swap partition is a better option.

I am wondering if an Intel Optane H10 might be the perfect thing for this…. 16GB of Optane memory and 256 SSD it might never need to use the SSD just the Optane memory…. Just use a M.2 usb adapter and plug that drive into that.
