Very rarely broken, for me, on CURRENT. Partly related discussion in FreeBSD Discord a few days ago.

vscode disappeared again from quarterly packages.

It's present for CURRENT.

For 140amd64-default, fallout is logged:

For the most recent 140amd64-quarterly, no fallout:

On my PC electron-quarterly compiles fine but not VS-Code. 32MB of ram, using 6 builders.

And VSCode is an editor?

I should not complain anymore about how bloated is emacs.

I respect the work of the maintainers. But it is unclear to me what is the real problem. Sometimes vscode compiles , a few weeks later it does not , a few weeks later it compiles again. Weird.

Regarding availability of the package, I explained several times what the problem is ...

And regarding building yourself, I have it in my ports list since it was first available and it never failed for me. You still didn't show how it fails for you. Resource requirements for electron are huge (it's kind of a chromium in disguise plus tons of npm stuff), so it's quite likely that's your issue.

Oh yes, Electron is a mess as im trying to compile just Electron 25 and if i noted correctly - chromium was downloaded.
As currently on 4% for Electron 25 - we will see later what error i get if i get as i had many dependencies to install on the way due to build errors for missing dependencies.
P.s. im using FreeBSD14.0-RELEASE-p6 and Quarterly pkg.

I was just wondering if someone would be interested in porting signalapp / Signal-Desktop or if there is specific reason why it hasn't been ported yet (Linux only?). P.S. I'm not using FreeBSD (waiting for 13.0 RELEASE to go onto my new laptop) or Signal yet, nor am I a developer, so this is...

Thanks, sorry for the false assumption – editors/vscode in latest currently requires Electron version 28, not 25, to build.

But i got errors could not compile 25. Going to see 28.
Ill might find history of what caused errors.

Interesting. For AMD64, I see no use of beefy8 since the run that began (and built vscode) at the end of March.

..right, and then I got the exact same failure on my poudriere. I submitted a PR.

The build log is attached in the report. Seems to be a Kerberos dependency.

This is obviously not FreeBSD-endorsed, and you shouldn't trust some rando from the internet like yours truly. If this eats your homework, don't complain to me please. It does work for me though.

I have problems with F# & Elixir using vscode. Not all functionality is available with the plugins.
Eg code completion

Since VSCode is currently broken, and I am really incapable to learn Emacs, I wonder if for using VSCode is better using Linuxolator or a Behyve...
With one of the two solution I may run VSCodium rather than the branded VSCode… ?

Vscode is not broken anymore. You can build it from ports just fine right now and should appear with the next round of packages.

But also not all plugins/extensions work on the FreeBSD platform.

Do you mean next quarterly?

I have VSCode still installed simply it refuses to run for some weird error, anyway compiling VSCode is going to be like a dependency hell and it is going to override half of my current libraries if I updated the ports tree...

It would be better if VSCode was built on another technology, clearly Electron is not so agnostic as the project claims...
