Framework 16 - Debugging USB-C Ethernet Adapters

I have a Framework 16 laptop. It has small expansion cards that clip in on the bottom of the laptop. I installed a USB-C connector in one of the expansion bays and connected a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to one of them. It sort of works and sort of doesn't. When I connect the adapter the media state is detected but the adapter is not immediately on the wire. If I try to force it up, it may or may not work on any given try, but eventually it will come up... for a minute or two and then it goes offline again. Trying to force it up after that is an exercise in futility.

I suspect the fact that I'm going from Thunderbolt 4 (I think) ↔ USB-C ↔ Ethernet is causing the Ethernet driver to become extremely confused and then give up on life. If that theory is even remotely accurate, what information do I need to submit a bug report and how do I gather it?

Stop me if there is already an open bug for this already or a known workaround. Thanks!
