Physical or emulated hardware casing FreeBSD to not boot?

Hello FreeBSD world, Please pardon my ignorance and anything crass I might have typed out, but I cannot seem to get FreeBSD (11 and 10.3) to boot past the 'Booting...' text from either the ISO or the QCOW2 image file for QEMU/KVM (yes I extracted it first) using QEMU/KVM. I ran checksums on...

    compat-amd packages

Just wondering, is there a benefit to continue to use compat6x-amd package or should I use an upgraded version, like compat7x or 8x? Is there an advantage or disadvantage? I mostly install this package when using vmware.

    Wine FreeBSD 11 Crashes

This isn't quite a full bug report, but is wine still supposed to work on FreeBSD 11? I upgraded about ~ 2 weeks ago or so, and ever since then wine hasn't been able to emulate anything at all but the most basic of applications. As in, not just one or two, but almost my entire library fails to...

"you have mail" change in FreeBSD 11

This isn't a very important thing, but I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so here goes. Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that the "you have mail" notification in the shell (/bin/sh in this case) has changed in FreeBSD 11. It used to be (in all earlier releases) that you could get back...

    Solved Question about wired memory

Hello fellow BSD-Users, since FreeBSD 11 is released, I'm building a desktop system from ports and take another run on FreeBSD. So after building a few ports (bigger ones like x11/xorg, x11-wm/xfce4 and german/libreoffice) I came across something which I realized some time ago too. Everytime I...

FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-p1 - Support for Intel Skylake CPUs?

First of all, congratulations to FreeBSD developers for a job well done in releasing FreeBSD 11.0 today. Secondly, before making this post, I read the release notes for FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-p1 and could not find the answer to my question. Are Intel Skylake CPUs supported by FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-p1?

Hi people, I'm trying to set up a server with FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE on a VMware VM @ OVH (hosting company) but, when I try to ping, I get a "host name lookup failure". It's very strange because I copied /etc/rc.conf and /etc/resolv.conf from the previous working installation with FreeBSD...

Solved CUPS in FreeBSD 11.0: printers are not listed

When I started using FreeBSD 11 a year ago, print/cups worked perfectly. However, after a certain update (it's happened to me at r298793) my printers have disappeared from the list in LibreOffice, Firefox, GIMP and others, but I was able to print from graphics/xpdf using /usr/local/bin/lp using...

    FreeBSD 11 new installer options

I installed today FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE. (I know it is not officially announced but you can download it) I noticed some new features in the installer. First you have the option to install the system with debug on: The suggested partition schema was MBR and not GPT. At least in a 20GB VMWARE...

Hello, I am running FreeBSD 11 RC1 on a raspberry pi 2. I have a urtwn usb wifi device. I can get it associated with my access point, but it just won't seem to send/receive any traffic: not DHCP packets, and not pings if I configure it statically. # uname -a FreeBSD rpi2 11.0-RC1 FreeBSD...
