You don't need "medication", aka drugs. You need to stop eating refined sugar, food additives, artificial dyes and UPF. And give up the 'red bull'.
Prof. Rob Lustig has been talking about this for decades. He is an endocrinologist at UCSF. He is well worth listening to. What he says applies to adults just as much as to kids.
Sugar is a toxic drug, that bangs the dopamine release button in your brain. They know you're going to keep coming back for more, just like the lab rats they tested it on years ago did; so they add it to everything they sell. When did you last see kids jumping up and down with excitement, because Mum bought a cabbage or some broccoli? Other than not getting you drunk, sugar works in your body just like alcohol, including leading to eventual liver cirrhosis ("non-alcoholic fatty liver disease", as it's now called), which generally ends up in you needing a liver transplant. Yeah, somehow they forgot to mention that on the mars bar wrapper.

A fair point. But you don't have to go very far back to get to "the time before UPF". Only back to around the 1970's. And you get to keep all the advances of modern medicine, you don't need to rewind those.
Here's another little video to watch. At the present time, 20% of the UK population get 80% of their calories from UPF; that's 1 person in every 5, eating a diet that is 80% UPF's.
i'd guess what we call "UPF" now is different from what could be called "UPF" back then, the technology was different but i'm pretty sure there was a food group that was considered to be the most processed before that term was coined, food processing in general has been around for like millenia
The difference is really the mass, ubiquitous availability, the cheap price (that you have mentioned), saturation marketing, modern distribution, and the application of scientific industrial and chemical manufacturing methods by the food industry, all to achieve profit maximisation. Or you could say "engineered addiction"; ask any mum who has dragged a screaming kid away from the candy counter (that never happens with lettuce, or radishes). The result has been that 'UPF' is now up to 80% of total calories consumed, whereas in the 1960s it was something like 10%.
If you want to make money, buy shares in food companies. UPF really got going around the late-80's, about the same time that this graph started going up. It's a highly profitable business, as the food companies discovered. You'll make money faster than you can say "high fructose corn syrup".
And in that same time period, there has been an explosion in the rates of "ADHD", "autism", "obesity", kids on medication drugs, etc., in the countries that have adopted the UPF industrial food system. And also in the incidence of type 2 diabetes, cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, fatty liver disease, alzheimers, dementia, ... it's a long, long list.
Of course their latest wheeze is to get you to pay for an expensive medication drug that you are supposed to inject yourself with every week for the rest of your life, to negate the addictive lure that they engineered into the stuff you see in the shop every day; rather than fix the root cause, which is the food supply itself. You really couldn't make it up.

I also wrote a C program for 'multiple mv', which allows you to perform multiple mv(1) in one invokation, like mmv a.txt b.txt a.c b.c moves a.txt to b.txt and a.c to a.c. And after quite a while I learned that apply(1) exists and my silly program is equal to: apply -2 mv a.txt b.txt a.c b.c
My physics prof used to tell me, in an exam, only a small proportion of the marks are awarded for getting the final answer numerically correct. The other 95% of the marks are awarded for showing, through your working, that you understood what you were doing when you answered the question, and how you thought out the solution.

i'm pretty sure it's because studies on autism have evolved parallel to that rise on UPFs, more and more people were finding out about their condition which was something that wasn't talked about back then, if there's any causation i'd guess it's little, maybe considerable (i think microplastics are the real problem here, they are present in UPFs but they're not meant to be there)

yes, i hate taking medication because of that, it fixes something at the cost of causing another problem, but i think now that shit is fucked fixing the root cause would just be nearly impossible

this was barely the case with me since teachers always stuck to multiple choice, the way the choices were structured also allowed for some easy guessing as well

i wanted to make a status bar with xsetroot but i didn't like that it'd update every second 'cos i'd use it to check my sound volume as well and wanted it to update right away, so i made it update as fast as it could and my fans would always start spinning whenever i launched the GUI
fast forward to a few months later, i discovered there was a program written in C that did exactly what i wanted by letting you update certain fields using interrupts, so i just grabbed the code and did my own stuff to it, plus optimized it a little

He describes one of the trials his research group did, where they put kids on a sugar restricted diet and the behavioural changes they observed, in parameters like what is currently called "ADHD". They saw a remarkable improvement in the kids they studied. He explains that sugar is a mitochondrial toxin, all throughout the body which also includes the brain, which is the reason for all the behavioural issues. Mitochondria are the energy batteries of every single cell in your body; if they are not working (or dying, due to sugar overload), you brain cells aren't working properly because they don't have a good energy supply. The same applies to what they are now calling "autism". There is a paper on the NIH website about this here:-

And in addition there are the constant dopamine spikes and insulin peaks, which hammers your liver in particular every time you eat the stuff. Refined sugar is a poison derived from a plant; it's not "food". What other "food" do you know of that looks like it came out of a chemistry lab test-tube? Just like refined cocaine is a poison derived from a plant. From the food industry's perspective, sugar is an addictive food additive, that they add to their products to increase sales. There are many similar research papers published, from several different research teams, if you go and look. The study Prof. Lustig talks about in the video is here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/oby.21371 . This guy is a serious university scientist who has been studying this for decades, this isn't some internet quackery thing; he is currently a professor at UCSF (university college san francisco) in california. If you look around on the web you will find there are several other serious researchers working in this field, who have reached similar conclusions.
When I was a teenager in the 1970s, there was no "ADHD", it was completely unheard of, and there were no "autistic" kids in the class (and also no obesity, there wasn't a single fat kid in my class of 30 kids; not one). Also completely unheard of was kids being put on heavy-duty drugs like Ritalin, Adderall and Xanax, the "chemical cosh"; that was unkown, there were zero kids taking that muck in my class. That was only a few decades ago. So what has changed? Half the kids in the class today are on strong psychoactive prescription drugs to try to control their behaviour. It's absolutely crazy. There is no possible genetic change that can explain the changes in the kids in such a small timespan. As Lustig points out, what has changed is the diet, and other environmental factors like screen use, but the diet is the number 1 issue.
Look at this graph. This hasn't "just happened". There has to be a real cause. The kids themselves are exactly the same as kids were in 1970, when the prevalence of autism was 1 in 10000. Today that number is 1 in 54! This is a huge increase! What has changed is the environment, and specifically the food environment: sugar, UPF, dyes, artificial sweetners, presevatives, emulsifiers, lots and lots of other chemicals in the food...
The trend in "ADHD" is exactly the same. I couldn't find a graph going back to 1970, probably because it was never even diagnosed back then, because there weren't any kids around with the supposed symptoms. I don't think the term "ADHD" had even been invented in 1970, certainly I never heard of it.
BTW, the problems with sugar have been known about for decades, too. John Yudkin, another serious university professor, this time from Britain, wrote this book about it right back in 1972.
Did I say anything doesn't exist? What I showed you was the data, which says that in 1970, which is only 55 years ago, 1 in 10000 people was diagnosed as autistic, that number is now 1 in 54; in fact that was the number in 2016, it's probably even higher now.
Here's another graph for you to look at. This is just in BC, but you can be sure that trend is the same across the western world. Someone is making a shedload of money out of this.
I know that if it was me, and some quack wanted to put me on muck like Adderall or Xanax, I'd certainly want to try changing my diet first and see if that helps, before spending the rest of my life hooked on the damn drug.
again, just because doctors aren't diagnosing it and prescribing medication for it doesn't mean the condition is nonexistent or iatrogenic. you can produce an identical graph about trans people, who have existed for the entire course of humanity's history
