Xfce Unlocking after "Switch User" does not work in XFCE

I'm using the packages lightdm(1) with lightdm-gtk-greeter as desktop manager and xfce as window manager. When I click "Switch Users" in the user menu on the top right corner, my session becomes locked as expected. However, when I try to unlock my session from that screen, the monitor will just become black for a second and then ask again for the unlock password.

There seems to be a workaround by manually switching the screen with CTRL+ALT+F9. There I can enter my password which then successfully unlocks the session. But when I use "Switch Users" again for the second time, my session will not be locked again (I can then switch back using CTRL+ALT+F9 without entering my password.

What's wrong and how can this behavior be fixed?

Is it generally okay to use lightdm with XFCE, or should I consider using another desktop manager that works better with XFCE?
