Spotify; has it been working for anyone else?

Hello everyone, recently the Spotify client under Linuxulator has not been functional. Accessing the Spotify website in any DRM-based browser also does not seem to work. Has anyone else had any issues relating to this?

Supposedly it should have been working since this tutorial which is older now: https://www.micski.dk/2022/01/19/how-to-install-spotify-on-freebsd/ but it's 3.5 years old now any maybe things have changed.

Does it even work in FreeBSD? I don't like it anyway but the ability to install it somewhere is nice.

I wrote it for firefox because there was already a solution for chromium but the referenced library/plugin also has instructions for chromium based browsers.

As for the linux client, no ideia.

As a few people already noticed, www/chromium has been recently patched to enable Widevine support. (It's debatable whether that's a good or bad thing, but the demand is certainly there.)

This is done with the help of www/foreign-cdm, which is a relatively straightforward proxy for the Content Decryption Module API. The port provides a native FreeBSD CDM implementation (a shared library) that in background transparently launches one or more Linux processes loading Widevine. They communicate through a pair of Unix sockets.

Why does it need linuxulator? Does it rely on closed source components?
The link to a linux client program on their own page doesn't work. Kind of a bad sign, I must say. Who lets that happen?

Anyhow I thing the whole thing is closed source since Spotify does not provide any source code.

At least for the last couple of years on linux, in my opinion, the only consistent way to get the client to work was to use the flatpak/snap version. I also tried to get it working with linuxlator without success. In the end gave up and solved running spotify on firefox.

In any case the current debian package will not run on Rocky 9, it requires glibc 2.38+, rocky 9 is at 2.34 (plus some extra dependencies from EPEL).
