Hello! I stumbled upon an interesting situation.
On FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE, I've noticed that when I run startx,
which starts jwm for me, but it seems that may not matter,
since i reproduced the same behavior on kde plasma,
the mouse pointer acts in a non-deterministic way.
What I mean by that, is that the mouse pointer may either not render
from the start, or it may be visible and responsive for a few minutes,
then it disappears. Sometimes I can continue using the keyboard for
another few hours, and sometimes, the keyboard becomes unresponsive as well,
and I need to reboot the PC using the good old power button.
I've also noticed that if I rapidly shake the mouse right and left,
I can drastically speed up the disappearance of the cursor.
Oh, and I just discovered the potential culprit, but I don't understand the reason
for the correlation. Perhaps someone would be so kind as to enlighten me?
Here is what I discovered:
The mouse pointer issue does not occur when I leave the default 4k monitor resolution.
It is only when the contents of my .xinitrc include this line that the problem appears:
xrandr --output DP-1 --mode 1920x1080
It took me a while to figure this out, and it happened somewhat by accident,
but I am glad that it did, as this issue has been quite annoying.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?
At first I thought, that it might be static electricity, because i bought a hygrometer and
it reported 20% humidity, so I bought a humidifier, but the same behavior occurs.
Also, I have not been able to reproduce the issue on other OSs, so I suspect it might be
FreeBSD related.
So, my question is two fold:
1. Does anyone know why this might be happening?
2. Does anyone know of a way to change the font size in a way that would be as uniform as simply lowering the resolution?
