Remove the rainbow flag from FreshPorts

Rainbow flag? All I can see is a sunflower, and the annoying bug running around...

I've really only used uBlock in it's default mode. This now has me going through the more detailed documentation on what I can do with it. Thanks!

It is the colored bars on each side of at the top of the search results. It is set as a background, so if there is a slight lag in loading the main content, you will see it full across the screen. It is only displayed during the month of June.

Oh--now that you mention it I see it. A little rainbow thingie on the sides by the search area. Each of us are different of course, but that isn't something that would irk me enough to try to remove it. I never even noticed it before you mentioned it.

I never even noticed it before you mentioned it.
Ha.
"It never bothered me because I never noticed it, but not that you mention it, I'm really really annoyed".
How many things in life are like this? You see them, you don't care so they don't bother you, but them someone points out how much it's there and it bothers you.

Example:
Graham crackers in the US. The box and the sleeves inside are the same size they've always been, but each cracker is about 2mm smaller in length and width and each sleeve has one less cracker.
One day you realize: how come there is so much empty space in the box of crackers and it costs more?

What's it even there for?

I find the crawling bug at the top of the page annoying. Is this a reference to
Dan is a forum member and personally hosts Freshports at his own expense. It is not an official FreeBSD website. It is obviously about pride.

The crawling bug gif is annoying.
Its roots are from an early web virus that would replace your mouse pointer. It later morphed into a meme by the time MySpace rolled out.

A nod to Pride month June 2026 I would imagine ..
Yes and considering the crimes against humanity currently being committed against non-binary people in US prisons in terms of "medical experimentation", it's not really the best look for people to be complaining about a little bit of color at the very edge. The Sunflower picture being labeled as Ukraine is far more puzzling.

Ukraine is a huge producer of sunflower seeds. It's where the sunflower oil in your can of sardines comes from.

AI tells me:-
"Ukraine is a leading global producer of sunflower seeds, with its annual production driven by favorable climate and large-scale cultivation. The country's sunflower industry supports both domestic and international demand, contributing significantly to its economy."

But until I read this thread, the link between that sunflower picture on freshports and ukraine had never occurred to me!

I would mind. It has no place being on a technical website. Why can't we have a 'straight month' flag instead? My 2c.
You're making it political. Is that what you want?
This isn't the place. I'm sure that many here would love to attempt to explain it to you, and many others would love to tell you why you're right, but this isn't the place. I say that as one who constantly starts to answer quasi-political posts, thinks about it, and realizes, that these forums aren't the place. (And yeah, I've not always resisted, but I've been trying very hard).

What's the use of the site anyway? You can read a description of a new port and download the port files? I don't see options to follow the development of a port or a single file. That would be useful.

I believe you have to subscribe to be able to search ports. But even if you don't, if you do a web search like xorg-server site:freshports.org you would then see a commit history, which often shows what was done (and gives links to the commits, I think.)f
