I think since I've been reading, researching and trying everything I can locate about using the GeForce GT 1030 video card with my 13.0 BSD system without success, I'm going to return it through Amazon and try an AMD Radon video card. The MSI Z590 PRO WIFI Lightning Gen 4 Motherboard has the i7-10700k cpu installed, however I have not been successful with the intel stuff either. Darn, I didn't think that buying a new Motherboard and CPU I would have so many issues with my beloved BSD. I started using FreeBSD with the 4.9 version, but have had major open heart surgery where my memory at the age of 75 just is not as it once was. Also, when I deleted the added nvidia.conf file in /usr/local/share/X11/xorg.conf.d, I was able to reboot back into the system!!
Yes, both modules are installed. And, I had already installed nvidia-driver by pkg install nvidia-driver.so you boot your system to a console, login and then run startx?
Did you make sure your username is added to the video group?
are both the modules installed?
You installed the nvidia driver?
as root:
pkg install nvidia-driver
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | nc termbin.com 9999
. Then post the resulting URL here. Before returning it, post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log. The card should work just fine on FreeBSD with the x11/nvidia-driver. Very little configuration is required. But without having a look at your logs there's no way to tell if things are set up correctly.
From the command line:cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | nc termbin.com 9999
. Then post the resulting URL here.

Need help on correct syntax to change the default resolution from 1024x768 to 1920x1080. The card is working on my MSI Z590 PRO WIFI Lightning Gen 4 Motherboard & an intel i7-10700k, 3.8GHZ LGA1200 cpu, but I’m not able to run the Nvidia- Settings file so as to change the resolution. I tried the kern.vt.fb.default_mode=“1920x1080”, but doesn’t work. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Indicate that Xorg does not know which driver to use, so you will need to have a minimal xorg config entry that will specify the nvidia gpu pci idCode:[ 36.885] (!!) Creating the file /usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-nvidia.conf
with the following should work
Since I don't have the actual computer that was having this issue on hand, this isCode:Section "Device" Identifier "Nvidia" Driver "nvidia" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection
nvidia-modeset
kernel module ( kldload nvidia-modeset

output. I do believe that some of these come with an integrated GPU. This might explain the message from your xorg log regarding "More than one possible primary device found". However, I don't know whether that is on a "hardware level" or whether you simply have another GPU driver loaded (eg. i915kms
) in which case it might be as simple as unloading that driver. zfs rollback
. This will revert the state of ALL files in the dataset (eg. "the disk" or "the partition") back to what they where when you took the snapshot after your basic setup was completed using zfs snapshot
.I am sure this only should beDriver "nvidia Corporation"
Driver "nvidia"
I posted the correct Bus id, do not change it"PCI0:1:0:0"

It is because I just made all the changes in my last post and I have graphics! I removed the xf86-video-nv pkg and the driver-nv.conf file in /usr/local/etc.X11/xorg.conf.d and added the 30-nvidia.conf file as you wrote. Rebooted the system and all is fine.According to the logs in https://termbin.com/qn0m the nvidia driver is in use, is that correct ?
Before returning it, post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log. The card should work just fine on FreeBSD with the x11/nvidia-driver. Very little configuration is required. But without having a look at your logs there's no way to tell if things are set up correctly.
From the command line:cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | nc termbin.com 9999
. Then post the resulting URL here.
…pkg install nvidia-driver
, …
… Any thoughts as to this procedure? …
