Nobody knows. There's no form of install tracking, much less contiguous use tracking.
I can easily believe that the openssl issue alone keeps quite a few people on 13.x.
if you want to have other things in your life (other than FreeBSD for example) balance is important; you must find time for everything you want.
One good thing about FreeBSD (and similar interests) is that there isn't a time-limit on follow-up...
But what did you learn if you can't replicate your installation?
I say erase it and do it again. Learn and take notes.
You should be able to do it the second time in minutes not days. Now that you have the offline packages you need for wifi...
For an old and long-time daemonforums.org user like myself (and likely loads of us), that's sad and bad news -- most of all for J65nko himself, who posted a lot here in the early days, and one last time in 2022. I'm sure everyone here who knows...
Hi all,
I’m the daughter of the daemonforums.org administrator j65nko. I can confirm that my dad is terminally ill and no longer able to maintain the forum. His condition has deteriorated significantly over the past six weeks, and he is...

Its also resolves one of the key Cyber Essentials certification concerns. In-house expertise are so difficult to prove when maintaining your own unsupported version of an OS. Delegating this support to a vendor is much more feasible to defend.

I agree with this, but this sentence fromt he article keeps jumping out at me:
LTS is a bridge, not a destination.
I guess the devil is in the details, but how long will Klara do the LTS thing for 13? Then for 14, 15?
But yes, kudos/good...
This article is possibly a bit of a shameless plug from Klara but does look like a good offering. And the challenges are certainly not overstated.
In many ways, people often want to avoid Linux precisely because of the constant upgrade churn...

I have page on this. It uses wireplumber and wpctl, which gives a sink number, which is what I used. https://srobb.net/pipewire.html
That's the way I did it, but all I can say is it worked for me.
My brother and I got our first PC in 2004; it was a Pentium-S 66 MHz with 16 MB of RAM, a 1.5 GB HDD, and a 1 MB video card. I also started using FreeBSD in 2011 on an IBM machine with a Pentium III 1 GHz processor, 128 MB of SDRAM, a 200 GB HDD...
my first pc was not vintage to be honest but i love it and still own it to this day but sadly it shows its age :(
Dell Precision T3400
Core 2 quad
4 GB of DRR2 RAM
128MB nvidia card ( i do NOT miss this card at all)
600 GB western digital hdd...

Yes, it's fiction but it's based on the book that makes false claims about things no one believes. So fiction based on supposed true statements known or thought to be fiction themselves.
It's one thing to tell me a story about a witch but another...
FreeBSD has been a major interest of mine for two years now. Before I installed it on my PC I read the handbook and lurked the forums for a couple of months.
My first install was rough. I couldn't get Wi-Fi working at the time, and ethernet...
Will do a new writeup later. Basically:
- linprocfs needs to be moutned and my machine didn't do that at bootup for some reason. That was holding me up
- you need to LD_PRELOAD...
Those iMacs were popular to buy 10ish years ago as a prop for internet caffe or something in that vein, but it's all gone now.
I have two of Quadras 605 (with Performa model name, forgot which) slim desktop boxes. One doesn't work and needs...
My random list so far:
Some fairly cool devkits. One that I am most fond of is for the N64 (the cheaper SGI Indy one, not the 250k SGI Onyx one ;)). Looks a little like this (not my photo) and (also not my photo).
PS1 devkit. Unfortunately not...
What are you using for managing the dual boot? I'm interested in different solutions, but for now I'm just using two separate drives and use the EFI boot manager of the motherboard.
I have found many things with computing technology, and with FreeBSD in particular, is actually rather simple and easy once you know what to do! It is that last part that often takes work, so I find it very important to keep good notes...
It's hard to comment as we don't see into your workflow. If you are already paying for Windows (maybe physical) you could use hyper-v and use FreeBSD images there. Even nested virtualiztion on hyper-v could be good enough.
I asked my colleague who is using Hetzner as part of their business infrastructure (DR in Azure). They rent physical HW (ESX, Linux). KVM can be requested, in contract they have few hours for TTR (time to respond) but usually do that in few...
This whole adventure has been far more difficult than I was expecting. I've looked through a lot of websites and spoken with some sales people. I think I've now accepted that cheap and good are difficult to achieve in one place! Licencing...
Oh, I've seen people make the weirdest rulesets, you'd be surprised. You do have a firewall active? Your response seem to imply you're using both IPFW and PF?
How's jellyfin connected to the network? Any bridge or multihomed shenanigans? How is...
I don't think so...
I can't imagine how ipfw and pf could drop SYN/ACK packets only responding to jellyfin but allow those to wget/curl ...
Also, I'm not using any ipfw/pf uid or user-related rule.
I just wanted to hand out some flowers. I just completed my first in many years fresh install with 15.1-RELEASE. It was super easy. I'll throw in that this install was a dual boot along side a Windows 10 install on a laptop. No problems...
Yes, a plain install takes me 6 minutes. I timed it once. Gui installers have their place I guess, but the TUI (or is it curses?) FreeBSD install is fine for me.
