When I first started with FreeBSD ~30 years ago it was supposedly dead or dying. Guess what? We're still here. The same will true for X11.
Why are there no video rentals any more? Why are a lot of brick-and-mortar stores closing? Is it because...
Is the process running in a jail? The jail might have user accounts that don't exist on the host. From the host's point of view it cannot translate the UID to a username because the user doesn't exist on the host.

In top I see a reference to a user 125 (or possibly " 125") running opendkim. There is no such user in /etc/passwd and top also reports "user unknown if I try to view processes owned by it. Does anyone know what this means?
thanks for suggestion , this is what i did and i can say it is my first program i do (if we exclude hello world) in my life without tutorials!
if anyone has suggestion for simple programs i can do for learning purpose , feel free to suggest them

Hi all, the problem still persists, even though I updated the jellyfin port and base system many times already.
After some investigation, I found that the three-way handshake couldn't succeed. SYN from jellyfin was sent, the server replied with...
It’s 4 lines every 3 seconds, 24/7.
Unfortunately Netcup does not provide a way to eject/unload images or even check if one is hooked. I cannot disable the virtual DVD-ROM in the VPS config.
Hello,
I’m running FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE on a VPS at netcup. It works OK, but every 5 3 seconds, these lines appear in the system logs:
devd[867]: Processing event '!system=CAM subsystem=periph type=error device=cd0 serial="QM00001"...
Before going too far with this just want to verify if this is possible in FreeBSD:
- Single ethernet port connected to a trunk port on a managed switch
- 3 VLANs tagged, plus the untagged traffic, so 1 physical interface, 3 vlan (sub)interfaces...
I installed the xlibre-server on an new htpc. It went well. It works for me and meets my rather modest needs. I think Wayland, by design, never will do that 100% and so I never will Wayland.

The most inner stars are real fast but spiral arms suggest some kind of interaction apart from gravity. Everything should divide without a visible structure, if you ask me, but it's a bit fluid-like.
Yes we are all from the UK
Funny thing is i actually get more views from
the US, Germany, India and Brazil than the UK

Upgrading to 14.5-RELEASEdid not have effect in glxinfo -B output. pkg update; pkg upgrade neither and reinstalling the kernel to the custom one before upgrading to 14.5-RC1 did not have any effect (possibly LinuxKPI and/or other) even if the...
blackbird9, that makes sense. I don't think a huge, transparent monitor would work for me. As you said, it probably looks good in the exhibition hall, but I suspect I'd get tired of it quickly. (Like I did with the transparent terminals when I...
If the confirmation is controlled not by the agent, but by the email client, you are right that it should be enough of a guarantee in that respect. But an agent can still "decide," for example, to email all your contacts. There have been cases...
I have to agree. While I am very critical about the generic use of AI and the stale mess that comes from it, it's also fair to say that there are plenty of legitimate uses for it. Being quite the (former) IRC diehard I don't exactly have many...
I have a large monitor, 32" and for my workflow, it's often useful, e.g, several terminals and a web browser open. As for the transparent stuff---when I had younger eyes, I would run fluxbox with a transparent terminal on moderately dark, bluish...
Yes, I finally did it! I'm so happy. (I had tried ghosbsd before, but the latest version didn't work.

I can see the Wi-Fi but it's not connecting. I need help with this.
How difficult it is depends on what you want and what language you use.
If you want to do calculations, with C is easy and efficient. It is a program that run once and do the calculations you need.
If you must deal with strings, for example for...
I would advise you to stop asking questions now and just proceed.
As others have suggested, write a program in some language that prints "Hello, world!". Until you can do that you're only talking about programming and not doing.
Forget about...
C is more elementary, you can easily guess how it translate to machine, and it is a closed system.
C++ is for 'object oriented' programming, perhaps you will seldom need object programming, and you can do it to some extent with C.
C will be...

But you’ve provided no criticism, but moan, complain, and throw insults like a little toddler. Exactly how is the installer “difficult, outdated, unnecessarily complicated, painfully long, and frustrating”?
I’d argue It’s easier to install...
That is for a WHILE-language similar to ALGOL60.
FORTRAN, as machine language: operations that change state, jump according to the state, repeatedly.
A functional language like LISP and relational like PROLOG has a different paradigm, the...
Have you tried using that tool on a proper server over serial?
Also note that gparted does not support the creation of ZFS pools. Get with the times kiddo. ZFS is the future! ;)

It's enlightening and thought provoking. Not something you think about everyday but things are so complex.
Computers haven't been simple for decades. You simply cannot explain what happens in today's hello world in C.
You can explain into great detail in 15 minutes what happens when you write that code on the 80s IBM PC type computer. You can also...
If you have a clear goal, shell script might be a good start. If things require more speed or graphics/media, you can try to improve parts with a real language that's also executed in a script. This is the lazy selective approach. Only study...
If that's what is implied by "no support" then covacat's solution seems to be the best one for the situation in Hetzner - deploy HW with Linux, spool VMs on top of it.
I checked in Azure (GWC) -- there are preinstalled images available. That's...
All programming languages follow a few basic patterns, loops, conditionals and variables. Those three basic principles all apply similarly in every language, only the syntax might be different from one language to another. Understand the...
