And then maintain the fork? Given the velocity of changes coming in to Gnome? You and what army?Fork the project
Sorry to correct you, but Gnome has announced that beginning with the next version of Systemd, there will be more and harder dependencies on Systemd. Look at their blog, a web search will easily find it.Systemd is a linux thing. Gnome doesn't require it and will never do. It also runs on other systems.
I don't disagree, but if there was enough interest in a systemd free version of Gnome, perhaps it could be done. Changes to Gnome: would they all be relevant to backporting or if they are higher systemd integration, they may not be worth finding alternatives. And then maintain the fork? Given the velocity of changes coming in to Gnome? You and what army?
I think your question is rhetorical. I mean come on man, it's Linux! if you haven't drank of the GNU koolaid then you are nothing to them. The brains of BSDers and GNUers function a bit differently from each other.Hi all,
Recently, I explained why I preferred FreeBSD to Systemd/Linux on a forum. But I received some particularly unpleasant feedback. I don't understand these people's motivations. Why are they attacking my freedom like this?
FreeBSD has jails, but no one is trying to put me in one.
Freedom is important. Thanks to all people who make FreeBSD and all BSD alive! Thank you so much for your work. Developers and users. You are real VIP.
I use a simple fountain pen. The ball pen generation yell at me. I am totally not surprised.Hi all,

Alpine Linux does not use systemd. It was the most commonly used distro for Docker containers for a while. I dunno or care if that's still the case.Ultimately, the "anti-systemd" side lost the war and there are just a few obscure distributions and derivatives left. Almost all of these are niche, and lack developers or funding - often for good reason. Some of those venues aided systemd proponents greatly in dismissing much of the critique.
True dat. Lennart and his acolytes are at least at good at politics as they are at computer programming.I have never seen any other project expend so much energy on FAQs and myth debunking write ups, as systemd, but some of the opponents of systemd were far more helpful.
Alpine is always OpenRC based (maybe S6 a day) but some developers (from Alpine or Systemd, can't remember) are porting systemd to MUSL...Alpine Linux does not use systemd. It was the most commonly used distro for Docker containers for a while. I dunno or care if that's still the case.
It's for the Alpine-based PostmarketOS.Alpine is always OpenRC based (maybe S6 a day) but some developers (from Alpine or Systemd, can't remember) are porting systemd to MUSL...
