Thinkpad T480 battery issues

Hello guys,

so far everything is working fine. The laptop has two batteries, but battery 0 is drained until 0 % and the laptop is crashing, although battery 1 is still on 100 %. How can I check why the system is not changing to battery 1? I guess it's only happening when using ports compiling. Otherwise it's working, but I have to prove it.

Yes, while compiling the battery 0 is drained completely and the display goes black, laptop off. Normally it should switch to battery 1 when battery 0 reached 5 %.
In any other situation it's working, only when using ports or synth it crashes without switching to battery 1

Then it is likely that the second battery isn't capable of delivering enough power matching the high load that building packages does.
Or it is the switching circuitry that isn't capable of delivering such power output during the switching.
 
Sounds like battery 0 is dead and won't hold a full charge. It's a bit strange that it doesn't switch over to battery 1 only when compiling though. So, when the CPU is under a high load, it fails to switchover. There might be something wrong with the power control circuitry; perhaps it doesn't detect that battery 0 is at 0V, or that battery 1 is fully charged, but I'm guessing. Try cleaning all connectors to the external battery, you can use IPA spray and cotton buds. You could take the back off and do the same for the internal one. If either of them won't hold a full charge, I would replace the dead one anyway. It's fairly easy once you've got the back off. There is one other option - plug the mains cable in to do heavy loads like compilation.
