How is an OS going to be airtight about age verification without it having a fully cryptographically "tamper-proof" path from firmware through to the running kernel? If you're allowed to download, modify and run your modified OS, you're able to neuter the age verification code with probably no more than a single well-aimed line of code.
In an optimistic case that would mean you get FreeBSD, that'll be attested and signed by the powers that be so you can use it to access.. let's say.. certain nature/lifestyle documentary films that require the viewer to be of a certain vintage.
And then there's the OS I compiled from the sources of FreeBSD plus a small tweak, that won't let me do that. And it's not just those films. Banking, shopping, any form of online interaction with any kind of "credible" institution really. It's the kind of foot that instantly breaks the whole door down. I dislike it intensely.
