RealNAS (realnas.io)

Hi.

I'm slowly looking to upgrade my home nas. The XigmaNas seems to be abandoned, TrueNAS abandoned FreeBSD ... so i found a projest called RealNas RealNAS
Looks good, and seems like it's exactly what i need.
The Manual page states:

Ok. FreeBSD 15.x fair enough. (dont have any live 15.x righ now, but it's not an issue)

And there the oddity starts:

- No sigle link on the webside.
- FreshPorts doesn't known anything about RealNas
- Github search engine dont known anything like that.

How can i test it?
Did i miss something? (very likely)

Any idea?

FreshPorts doesn't known anything about RealNas

They're custom packages, not ports. So you're not going to find it in the ports tree, or on the FreeBSD package repositories.

Haven't heard of it either.

What do you want to do? Maybe it is straightforward to do on plain FreeBSD.

Interesting I will have to take a better look. I will throw in this one as well https://bsdnas.com/ it impressed me much more than other forks as someone who worked on truenas previously. Though I’ll admit I haven’t installed it I just looked over the code and it looked very clean and I could tell they found their way around the build system and seemed to have a strong background in sysadmin. You can be a good developer all you want but from my experience when TrueNAS was best it had people with strong sysadmin experience behind it. Making a fiber channel feature for example only goes so far unless you actually understand how things should work. Otherwise you’re just going to annoy the people testing it.
