Raspberry PI 400: black screen with FreeBSD 14

4. $ dd if=FreeBSD-14.3-RELEASE-arm64-aarch64-RPI.img of=/dev/mmcsd0 bs=1m conv=sync
5. insert the SDcard into the Rpi 400 and plug in
6. black screen :-(

what did I do wrong and should do otherwise?

FreeBSD 13 had issues to boot from the internal SD card. Solution was to update the u-boot.bin on the MSDOS partition.
I don't know if 14 fixed this yet.

I got this running on the 4GB model and was running fine until the the USB-C port got dislodged. I bought an 8 GB model to replace it and I can't get past the rainbow screen. I tried several different sd cards, and then tried an Ubuntu image and a Raspbian image just to make sure it was not my device. It seems to run flawlessly, but will not boot the 13.0-RELEASE image. I tried the nightly builds of 13.0-STABLE as well.

FreeBSD-13.0-STABLE-arm64-aarch64-RPI-20210819-60833696c2e-246841.img

after 2 hours in the rabbit hole scavenging bits and pieces - no success.

A pity there's no concise writeup.

What's the problem? Did you update the u-boot.bin with the one from the repository and it still does not work?

the problem is a black screen and no recipe but scattered bits and pieces.

No I haven't seen, that looks promising, I'll try.
