Solved Possible to use 12-current driver in 11.1?

First time FreeBSD user here.

I have a wireless network card with a rtl-8812ae chipset. I checked and it looks like this is supported by rtwn in 12-current, but not 11.1.

I’d prefer to not use the development version if possible for my first time, but a lack of wifi really is a dealbreaker (I can’t run cable and my router is in a very inconvenient location). Is there a way to set up the latest version of the driver, and grab the required firmware, without upgrading everything else?

Short and simple answer, no.

That said, it may have already been added to 11-STABLE, this will become the new 11.2-RELEASE which is planned to be released at the end of June. Beta snapshots should be available fairly soon: https://www.freebsd.org/releases/11.2R/schedule.html

Thank you for the succinct answer. I’ll switch back to Linux for now, but I’ll keep my eye on the upcoming release.
