periodic daily Root Mails

Hello,

I haven't received regular daily root mails for some time now. What is the best way to identify the issue?

As Mailserver i use:
- OpenSMTPd
- Dovecot

did you look in places like /var/spool/mqueue or /var/spool/clientmqueue for temp files?
How about looking at log files for failures?

Cron uses /usr/sbin/sendmail, which is a symlink to mailwrapper(8). That in turn switches to the correct executable based on the information in /etc/mail/mailer.conf.

Hello, i have fixed /etc/mail/mailer.conf but don't became any reports on mail. What can i next to do?
 
Check the logs of the mailserver to see if anything actually got received and/or sent. Maybe it's stuck in the queue, maybe cron never sent anything.

hm... also, queue is empty

but in /var/log/maillog i see the same, strange patern "from=<> to=<root@server"
What could it be?

Empty 'from' might indicate a delivery status email, those typically happen when mail gets bounced. It's also possible your mail server isn't configured correctly to handle locally submitted mail.

Try sending yourself an email from the command line using the mail(1) command. And check your mail logs to see what happens to it.

(moving this to "web and network services" because I think this issue is related to the mail server configuration)
