Solved NS_ERROR_NET_INADEQUATE_SECURITY FF 78

Hi!!

Since yesterday night, I can't browse internet with my firefox (such as www.google.con, refer to error message down below). Fortunately, I can still visit very few pages such as https://forums.freebsd.org/, but there is warming tell that "Connection not secure this page uses weak encryption".

Yesterday, I tried to install RStudio-1.3.959 (using PKG). I am not sure if there is a link, nothing else visible happened. I was even watching a video on youtube during the installation process.

Firefox version : 78.0.2 (64-bit)
FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE r354233 GENERIC amd64

Thanks for your help and advise.

Hi,
Good news, % pkg upgrade fixed my problem.... (139 package(s) will be affected). My install was fairly new, and it was the 1st time I run a upgrade.
Now, everything works fine!!!

Oddly enough, I had this happen the other day, after upgrading firefox. I posted on a 3 year old thread, figuring it might help someone else as it was one of the few results from a search engine.

Apparently the issue is making sure your nss packages (ca_root_nss and nss) are upgraded. In my case, I'd upgraded ca_root_nss but not nss. Upgrading it is what fixed the problem for me. There's another workaround mentioned in the old thread about disabling http2.spdy, but I would say save that as a last resort.

I agree with "scottro" upgraded FF to 91 on FBSD13.0p4 received the NS_ERROR and had already upgraded ca_root_nss on prior FF upgrade so had to upgrade nss. I did not want to disable http2.spdy. an aside - this error occured when going to gmail, web pages loaded okay.

Aloha SirDice,
I run freebsd-update on a regular basis. I am patched 13.0 p 4. I believe that this updates the security patches for the kernel. The issue occurred after I installed the pkg calibre which upgraded FF to 91.0.2 it was then when I went to get my mail that I got the error. I have a question if you would be so kind: If I pkg-upgrade does it upgrade all pkgs' to "Current" and if so will there be problems with my 13.0-Release as current is 14?

Mahalo, and thank you for your time.
