Other need to mount a partition that has been formatted openbsd-data. is this possible?

got this external drive that i used to back up my openbsd server. no longer use that server and do not need the backups, so i would like that storage space for media. i want to go through those backups and make sure there isnt anything important that i would miss. is this possible?

probably the easiest way to do this would be just liveboot openbsd.

beastiegirl you can try mounting the partition read-only. The filesystems for FreeBSD and OpenBSD both came from Berkley FFS, so there is some commonality. They have made incompatible extensions since then, but perhaps your installation isn't using any one that's required for reading.

Openbsd & Freebsd have different implementations of the UFS filesystem. You could indeed try to mount read only. But you might need the right slice & offset.
