MATE Mate not logging in

While explaining the problems I was having to my wife over sushi dinner tonight I realized the problem is that mate-session overwrites the USB drivers or replaces them with non functioning other drivers. The TTY functions great... Mouse moves, keyboard functions... of course why a mouse in a TTY setting... few things take advantage. It's just a damn shame that someone from the FreeBSD staff isn't reading this.

I'd like to explain that they should do as others have and make this keyboard mouse display issue go away by auto detection. Life shouldn't be this complicated. So many others have conquered this hurtle... Those Berkley guys should be smart enough to get this fixed. Or maybe NOT?

I seriously doubt that my drive is flakey enough to cause this problem. This is like the 5th attempt on many different drives over several weeks time. BTW what's a wm?

This data is from GhostBSD which works... with mouse keyboard & Mate

I'll try capturing the data from the defunct FreeBSD system tomorrow. This should tell the story... GhostBSD is ver 11.1 as well

Dave

These files are the ones requested above, however they are from a working GhostBSD 11.1 system. But can't figure out how to put them in here...bunziped them because they were 5GB

Ok for those of you who wanted to see all of the files... I finally figured out a way to get them to you. As well I've loaded up a fresh copy of GhostBSD with the latest updates, and it seems to be working well. although Nextcloud has released 13.0 and I have yet to get it operational. But 12 may work.

The configuration files requested above... dmesg, rc.conf. pkg info and Xorg.0.logs are in the following locations.
http://70.63.95.106/y/FBSD <-- has the files from the Mate with inop mouse. But these were captured while logged in TTY.. so may not be helpful

http://70.63.95.106/y/GhostBSD <-- has the files from a fully operational GhostBSD with Mate logged in as GUI

I don't know what will come of this work, but now that I have Ghost nearly debugged and fully functional ZFS install... I'm less concerned why the Berkley folks are so lazy and haven't created distros with the various desktops already integrated. It seems the right thing to do if you want popularity. Now if you want to have an exclusive club of BSD Nerds... why they're on the right track.

Thanks in advance for those of you who have taken an interest in assisting me. I really appreciate it. There was a time when naively I edited rc.conf with vi instead of using sysrc commands to activate the various programs... silly me. I thought it would be the same... apparently not. I have a fair amount if computer skill and a lot of experience with Solaris. Up until 11.2. However spending a few days reading the manual on FreeBSD seemed to be a bit much. Perhaps a quick gloss over may have helped. But I read much better on paper than I do on a screen. So... hope we figure this out. Seems that many are having similar issues.

Now that I can nearly compare side by side I see a large differennce between dmesg in the bottom 100 lines having to do with USB... funny... that's what the problem is.

Dave

Also it seems that x11/xauth is missing, which is a important Xorg component.
Please show the outputs of dmesg, pkg info, /etc/rc.conf, /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old, so that we can help you more.
If you don't mind, it would be better that you post the outputs with the following structure:

dmesg
Code:
Insert the output here...

pkg info
Code:
Insert the output here...

/etc/rc.conf
Code:
Insert the output here...

/var/log/Xorg.0.log
Code:
Insert the output here...

/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old
Code:
Insert the output here...

I worked on trying to post these here, but file size is a problem. Got the data, and data from a working GhostBSD for a comparison. Interesting resultsl

Go to:
http://70.63.95.106/y/FBSD
http://70.63.95.106/y/GhostBSD

Compare dmesg last 100 lines... Interesting

Problems resolved. Now on to making the systems work with Wordpress and Nextcloud.... another layer of groans

) Dave

I found it interesting that I could find the Forum using different computers and not see exactly the same content. Do they keep multiple servers and not carefully update one another... or am I seeing an anomaly?

Dave

Hey what happened to my final post? Did I break the rule by using an external website to put up info?
