When the US defaults on its $40+ trillion debt it will have world wide repercussions.

China holds a large amount of this debt and Americans holding worthless T-Bills will be thanked for their patriotism.

Runaway inflation consequences are well documented in South America.
 
They'd better get AI and fusion working sometime soon, if they are going to stave off the evil day. Somehow, I don't think UFO's and Aleeens are going to save us.
We know a bit more about how it plays out, this time around. Then again, they didn't have nuclear arsenals to play with, last time. And last time was bad enough.

I think Battlestar Galatica is right...

We are all going to fight it out with the Cylons, for many yarn, mostly "lose" and then a single remaining battlestar.. the Galatica... will lead all of us (aka "the survivors") to a new shining planet... (new?) Earth !

But this new Earth is a long, long, long way from here ... and it's going to take an entire 8 or 9 seasons of TV watching to get there... But we will get there !
