I need to give librewolf a try too.
Well, this was on slashdot, https://news.slashdot.org/story/25/...-switch-to-completely-disable-all-ai-features, so supposedly firefox will have an AI kill switch.
I used to use aioe.org, but it's gone away. Are there any decent free usenet servers out there nowadays? Or do I have to pay?
Not a fan of Palemoon:
Palemoon is a Firefox fork, no? Try a different fork like Waterfox. Or ungoogled-chromium. I don't run the latter cause I build my own packages and its build time is frankly ridiculous.
let give it a try...Libre and WaterfoxLibrewolf has been my choice for the last six months or so, works great IMHO
And who is coding that switch in?Well, this was on slashdot, https://news.slashdot.org/story/25/...-switch-to-completely-disable-all-ai-features, so supposedly firefox will have an AI kill switch.
is like a "dejavu" ..sorry ,I quoted your post drhowarddrfine , but is like a dejavu, if they let it as a choise, well..but are changes that are implemented by brute forceI'm not saying it's not important. It just reads like everyone's scrambling around for an immediate solution as in blackbird9 first video.
A couple of librewolf screenshots. Version 146.0-2, the current package version. It's not bad. I think waterfox is more complete and sophisticated. I was able to install ublock origin, it appears to be working.

Well, it seems to work ok here. Looks like another option.
So what's next, AirCoyote?
I agree, but how many lines of code? If it's anything like Google's code, it's going to hurt someone's head trying to understand it.Well, in their defense, we will be able to read the code and judge how much the Kill Switch actually does.
the browser just close when enter a website, I dont remember the console message"Crash" means what? Any messages on the terminal? Or in `dmesg`?
I don't think it was this community alone, but we shall not let get that little detail in the way of celebrations.
Exactly. "You want to go to your banking website? Thanks for the credentials"And let's see how long that switch will work as advertised and when it will have a clause that you volunteer all your data you input into the browser for training.
You gotta admit, this would've never happened with Google's Chrome. Chrome will do whatever they (and the corporation) will want to do.I don't think it was this community alone, but we shall not let get that little detail in the way of celebrations.
And let's see how long that switch will work as advertised and when it will have a clause that you volunteer all your data you input into the browser for training.
It's at v.0.0.3What about the servo engine? It seem promising...
The problem is not that they are going to implement some llm in Firefox (which is already bad enough for me), the link from cracauer@ with the CEO's words is "...will evolve into a modern AI browser...". If Firefox starts developing that way, you will be able to disable options and such, but it will be optimized for using llm. It is tough to start fighting against future design. When GNU/Linux started shifting to systemd, I also wanted to think that simply not using it would be enough, but distributions and applications start adapting to having systemd, and if you do not use it, start having problems that you have to figure out how to solve. When software introduces something into its core that you do not agree with, migrate before you start getting angry. And I have mentioned Seamonkey, and other users also mentioned Librewolf and Waterfox here, and we will see how things work out, because they depend on Firefox's code, and removing options is not the same as modifying the core.
I hear it's being made by a madman.
I have a strict rule to not use software made by madmen. It never leads anywhere good, even if the initial direction looked promising.
That is correct.
What exactly are you talking about? His former addiction? "Former" is the keyword here. If anything, it shows his resilience and strength of character.Well i googled it, problem solved.
I was very interested in NetSurf... like a decade ago. It sounded promising for a while. But this isn't the late 90s/early 2000s with its text-wall websites and flashy gifs static content. Not supporting modern standards nowadays means a completely broken web. Plain and simple. Ladybird seems to support more after, what, five years of development, than Netsurf after almost two decades. Supporting modern standards never seemed to rank very high on their bucket list. Why don't those who wait for Ladybird just help NetSurf out for the time being? It's already there, it's mature, it does not have any known madmen in its team - and it is much more portable than Ladybird.
Cant wait for Ladybird to get released.
Ladybird is rapidly evolving and the FreeBSD port isn't catching up. It has no maintainer and hasn't been updated in more than a year.I hope Ladybird does well
This unfortunately doesn't bode well for the future of Ladybird on FreeBSD.Much has changed upstream since I did the initial port. The project now depends on various complicated components like angle and skia that all need to be ported (skia in particular must be the exact right version it seems).
