Solved Firefox refusing to start...

Note that, by default, packages come from the quarterly branch on -RELEASE versions. The quarterly packages are updated once every 3 months and normally only get security updates in the mean time. You can switch to the latest package repository, which follows the ports tree as close as it can. This means nearly constant updates, each and every day.
OK. Thanks, that is good to know.

I **THINK** the forum user, blackhaz, just ran into the same problem I am having with this newer box and has come up with a solution, posted in this part of the forum this morning at 8:37 PST, under the heading firefox-72.0_1,1 Segmentation Fault - Solved, which is exactly the problem I ran into. Perhaps the latest package repository solves this issue?

OK. This thread is solved. Blackhaz gave me the first major clue towards the solution under his thread titled firefox-72.0_1,1 Segmentation Fault. And I thank him heartily for that.

I restarted the complete installation of FreeBSD 12.0, then logged into a terminal as root, first moved to /var/db then did portsnap fetch then when that finished, moved to /usr/ports and did portsnap extract.

(I am reasonably certain at this point that I did not need to do this, but I didn't know that at that time and did it anyway.)

When that finished, I then did pkg upgrade.

That took some time, and involved some 400+ MB of "stuff".

When that finished, I found that now my Firefox was upgraded to Ver 72+ and worked perfectly.

I then went ahead and did pkg install (various programs), including CUPS, epson-inkjet-printer-escpr, and hplip, and everything was up-to-date and now worked perfectly.

I then did pkg install libreoffice. which, again, worked perfectly, and pkg install mahjong, which as far as I can tell now did NOT work....at least I haven't yet found it....and I LIKE Mahjong. :)

Anyway, thanks to all who helped here. You are a good bunch.
