Firefox 130 has a new feature for Picture in Picture mode

Enable Picture-in-Picture on active videos when switching tabs.

which you have to enable in the settings / Firefox labs

It has an option to automatically pop-out (supported) video content in picture-in-picture mode when you switch from the tab the content is playing it.

the way it works is if you are playing a video and switch to another tab
then the video is automatically popped out in picture in picture mode

and then when you switch back to the tab playing the video
the pip window automatically pops back into the main page

you will also notice you can enable an Ai chatbot in the sidebar
to help you post meaningless drivel to the forum

note im using dwl in tiling mode to show the pip window and firefox side by side

on a stacking window manager or desktop the pip window would be floating above the browser window

I enabled the feature a few days ago, didn't have a use case until today.

Wow. Maybe less impressive with only one display, but with multiple displays: wow.

if you have 2 monitors depending on your desktop or window manager
you could create a rule for Firefox pip windows so they are automatically moved to the second monitor full screen

First time, I got full width.

Second case, a different video, I got the video less than full width, top right in the screen to the right of my primary screen. I guess it's resolution-dependent, or something.

I like love that it just works.

It works, but the only issue I noticed is that deselecting 'Always on Top' it still does not go behind other windows. Also, to move the PIP window, I must always select 'Move'. The default mouse action is 'Resize' and I do not see any way to change that.

And eventually, after playing around for some time, it completely froze the MATE desktop. The video kept running, but everything got frozen. Even 'ctrl-alt-F1' did not work.
System was up and running. Logging in over ssh and restarting the WM brought it back to normal.

I can see this icon on your screenshot, but I do not have such icon.

I do not have such icon.

The pointer/icon changes, for me, after I begin dragging.
