Audio not working system76 pangolin 12 laptop

Hi ,

I opened a thread about having audio and WiFi issues, which has since been moved to networking in the forums, I am receiving help with the WiFi issue, but I thought it best to open a separate issue for audio. I'll link the thread here for reference, but basically audio does not play through the speaker of my system76 pangolin 12 laptop. This is the compatibility wiki checklist showing that audio hasn't worked for this laptop for a while, but I'm hoping to resolve this and possibly get the wiki updated.

this is the release I'm on
Code:
FreeBSD freebsd-one 15.1-RELEASE-p4 FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p4 releng/15.1-n283627-db6066678b33 GENERIC amd64

this is the output of cat /dev/sndstat

Code:
pcm0: <ATI R6xx (HDMI)> (play)
pcm1: <Conexant (0x20d0) (Analog)> (play/rec) default
pcm2: <Conexant (0x20d0) (Left Analog Headphones)> (play)
No devices installed from userspace.

and dmesg | grep hdac

Code:
hdac0: <ATI (0x1640) HDA Controller> mem 0xfcac8000-0xfcacbfff at device 0.1 on pci4
hdac1: <AMD Raven HDA Controller> mem 0xfcac0000-0xfcac7fff at device 0.6 on pci4
hdacc0: <ATI R6xx HDA CODEC> at cad 0 on hdac0
hdaa0: <ATI R6xx Audio Function Group> at nid 1 on hdacc0
hdacc1: <Conexant (0x20d0) HDA CODEC> at cad 0 on hdac1
hdaa1: <Conexant (0x20d0) Audio Function Group> at nid 1 on hdacc1

and following advice from the other thread sysctl dev.hdac.0.pindump=1 (output of dmesg)

Code:
hdaa0: Dumping AFG pins:

hdaa0: NumGPIO=0 NumGPO=0 NumGPI=0 GPIWake=0 GPIUnsol=0

is there any where I can start to debug the issue with the audio ?

thankyou for your assistance and advice.

My apologies, this should have been dmesg | grep pcm .

Please post the pindump of hdac.1 sysctl dev.hdac.1.pindump=1

I tried with these device hints based on the pindump above with no luck

Code:
hint.hdaa.1.nid23.config="as=1 seq=0 device=Speaker"
hint.hdaa.1.nid22.config="as=1 seq=15 device=Headphones"

no audio through speaker or headphones.

Try beep -D 500 /dev/dsp1, as unprivileged user and root, with and without the device hints. Try also with the headphones plugged in.

Try over headphones: sysctl hw.snd.default_unit=2

If still no sound, perhaps the audio device is not defined in the hda codec [1].

For example, on a ThinkPad the device is identified as "ALC257":
Rich (BB code):
 % dmesg | grep hdac
hdacc1: <Realtek ALC257 HDA CODEC> at cad 0 on hdac1
Rich (BB code):
% devinfo -rv
hdacc1 <Realtek ALC257 HDA CODEC> pnpinfo vendor=0x10ec device=0x0257 revision=0x00 stepping=0x01 at cad=0
See [1], line 571.

On your system76 as "(0x20d0)":
dmesg | grep hdac
Rich (BB code):
hdacc1: <Conexant (0x20d0) HDA CODEC> at cad 0 on hdac1
Please show us devinfo -rv . The device id of the Conexant audio device is of interest.
