I had a setup with 4x4 TB disks, with two mirrors consisting of two disks each, giving me about 8 TB of usable storage space. One mirror consists of ada0 & ada2, the other mirror of ada1 & ada3.
I needed to upgrade storage space, so I decided to upgrade one mirror by resilvering two times. I...
Hi,
Are 2-drive mirrors really the easiest pools to recover one can find in the wild? If recovery capability is paramount to all other considerations, should it indefinitely be the best option?
I'm asking this question because I recently had a 4-drive z-mirror fail to import, it was reported...
I find this page about FreeBSD mirrors but when I'm trying to use one in the `FreeBSD.conf`, It won't allow my to do that. Are mirrors that work with `pkg` different than these ones? Where can I find mirrors to use with `pkg`?
P.S. Please don't tell me "pkg should install the best mirror based...
Hi All,
Hope someone can guide me.
I created a zpool called data with 4 pairs of mirrored disks (8 disks in total) mirror-0 to mirror-3
A disk in mirror-0 failed I have been able to remove it from the mirror-0 and replace the disk.
This now shows as ada0 in zpool status with no mirror-0 showing...
I'm doing some clean FreeBSD installs and pkg is very slow to download packages (400/500 kb/s). Is there any way to choose another mirror for faster installation?
In my home PC, one of my two HDD that I have in (btrfs) RAID 0 failed. So, I am shopping for the replacement. I am planning to install FreeBSD (zfs) and set up RAIDZ (buying 3 SSDs).
Now, I am reading everywhere that mirroring 2 disks (1 vdev per disk) is faster than RAIDz1 with 3 disks. And it...
Hi Freebsd Forum community,
We run a large installation of Freebsd 11 and 12 servers that have historically utilized a local FreeBSD package repository mirror on-premise that we sync periodically. The method we have been using for years -- since the official repositories were poisoned a few...
Is it possibe to run bsdinstall from an existing installation (12.1-RELEASE) onto another connected HDD? Reason I ask is because I'm looking to move/reinstall FreeBSD on my desktop machine from a single 1TB HDD (UFS) to 2x 1TB (ZFS mirror).
Here are the steps I am thinking of following so far...
I have two drives which are both geli encrypted and have the same partition scheme.
I added both to an zfs mirror pool and created some smaller partitions in that pool.
After a reboot im facing these problems:
I can decrypt both drives, but only the first decrypted is shown as online and the...
How can I do that?
user@serv:~ % l /dev/mirror/mirror
119 crw-r----- 1 root operator - 0x77 Aug 8 14:01:02 2019 /dev/mirror/mirro
rc.conf
geli_devices="mfid0p8 mirror"
geli_mfid0p8_flags="-p -k /root/1.key"
geli_mirror_flags="-p -k /root/2.key"
mirror/mirror does not work as well.
I have FreeBSD version 10.3-RELEASE-p4(kernel) and 10.3-RELEASE-p5 (userland). I did setup Mirror RAID with two disks during installation. Now I wand to make sure that the mirror is functioning properly.
This is what I’ve tried.
graid status prints no results.
Next, I made sure disks are seen...
I'm not a newbie on ZFS but I have never used before a RAIDZ2 pool. Now I have migrated two VMs to another host. The capacity on the destination pool has grown by the factor of two  I know that a RAIDZ2 setup needs more capacity but the output of "zfs list" is a little bit curious. I hope...
After installing FreeBSD [11.2] for the first time, it seems to work properly except for updating:
root@firsttry:~ # freebsd-update fetch
Looking up update.FreeBSD.org mirrors. . . none found.
Fetching public key from update.FreeBSD.org. . . failed.
No mirrors remaining, giving up.
uname...
Hi,
Hopes community doing great. We're experiencing disk errors "UDMA_CRC_Error_Count" via smartctl on all of our drives (12 x 3TB) from quite a time now and after trying everything mentioned in this post, we're still not able to diagnose it. Here is the log of smartctl ...
I'm running a Freebsd 11.1-RELEASE-p9 NAS with ZFS pool sat comprised of 2 two-way mirrors. The hardware is HP Microserver Gen 8. I have SATA controller set to AHCI mode in BIOS.
mirror-0 disks are ada[13]. mirror-1 disks are ada[02].
Yesterday I upgraded the iLO (HP name for IPMI)...
I install from pkg and it is very slow, when I install the desktop KDE for 1GB
It takes hours, very slow speed. On Linux, it more fast for 1 GB to download
I have edited mirror on FreeBSD.conf
Pkg0.twn.freebsd.prg (I am in Asia) so I use Taiwan for the closest mirror.
Is there any something I...
Hey all,
right now I'm trying to setup public mirror for FreeBSD in Armenia. I know how to setup www, ftp and www for ftp, however I'm having a hard time understanding how to setup a public SVN, basically I want to mirror https://svn.freebsd.org/ports/head at our server so people can use the...
I have a machine with three 2TB drives mirroring the single zroot zpool. Is there a command sequence to pull one of those drives from the mirror, make the mirror forget it as a member of the pool and mark the drive as a spare rather than as an active pool member? A link to a page would be fine...
I was trying to configure the mirror site for binary packages but couldn't get it as I wanted. The overseas internet connection here in Korea is very bad (about 50KB/s at best and down to 500B/s in actual download speed per connection) while the local connection is very fast (around 8MB/s per...
Since I have quite a few FreeBSD installations on a totally closed network, I'm looking to
create a local mirror to update/upgrade these installations.
The handbook has this nice article
Build your own FreeBSD update server
This may or may not be what I need, but I have questions
as this...
