Fun arriving
I don't think it's a good idea to set any deadlines here, Alain. Most likely you won't meet them, and then it'd be much harder, if not impossible, to catch up. That's just how it works.

When trying to develop new habits I'd focus on consistency no matter how small my first steps might be. Overall, it's much better to do something for like 30 minutes a day every (other) day, than to pour all the energy into the first week or two and then inevitably burn out.

To me it seems impossible to properly read 30 books full of science in 25 weeks if you're not a field expert already, but by setting such goals you're creating for yourself absurdly unrealistic expectations. And when you fail to meet them, you'll end up feeling even worse than if you hadn't done anything at all. No one should put themselves in that kind of situation. I even think it'd better not to set any expectations at all.

And what the hell is this "Punishment Factor"?

Indead , good thinking, the timing, should be like having an idea.
Note it's a hobby , and as such should always be fun, meaning no deadlines.
Punishment factor, i thought of a fun naming of me having poor memory.
And I asked google ai to increase time when lots of memory is needed .

eseipi, EXACTLY! I remember, in my early 30's being totally devastated by a broken heart, and deciding that I had to do something. Then decided I would start exercising, started at making sure I did at least 5 minutes a day, and of course, it grew, until even now, far too many years later, it's something that I'm fortunate enough to be able to continue.

Had to stop for awhile, as I'd gotten very ill, but when I was able to start back up again (this was about 8 years ago), the experience of getting myself restarted was easier, as I knew the excuses I would make to myself. (Plus I now had a wife to stop me slacking off). :)

scottro When I was 24, I had to get a physical for work. My doctor told me I was a perfect physical specimen. Something I remind my wife of every once in a while even today, 50 years later.

I ballooned up to 263 pounds about 25 years ago. When I was 24 I weighed 175--my high school weight. When my, then, 14 year old son was told by his agent (he's a professional actor) that he needed to work out his baby fat and buff up a bit, his photographer recommended a body builder named George Turner. Since I had to drive him to the gym three times a week, I figured I might as well work out, too.

George put me on a diet where I was never hungry and a workout that made me feel 24 again. Got me down to 188 in about eight months. I don't work out anymore but I was down to 192 last year but managed to get back up to 202 right now without even trying! :)

Supposedly, as in, I think I read this somewhere, if you eat what you always eat, and do the same amount of exercise you always do, you gain a pound (.454 kg) a year.

Fun arriving,

Yes, the short stories are very satisfying :)

I like to do an hour or a chapter per day, it seems to help me feel my day is more rounded.
I've also started listing books I've read and am considering making a database out of it.

My late mom used to listen to books a lot while she drove. I've never really been able to enjoy. (And for everyone's amusement, why did I write that? Because I misread brassmonkeys' "I've also started listing.." as "I've also started listening". Sigh, too many senior moments, or maybe I'm just illiterate.

Those pesky senior moments are really sneaky :)

Not sci-fi ...

After self-evalution my funny punishment factor "1.5" is not high enough.
Cell-biology 10 pages per hour is way too much. 3 pages per hour will be ok.
A line goes like this : activated phospholiphase C + inositol 1.4.5-triphosfate , later diacylglerycol gives actived PKC. :) Boehaha.

I just bought: "California Practice Guide: Enforcing Judgements and Debts". Two volumes, each 1000 pages. How to get money after you win a lawsuit. I don't plan to read every single page, only look for good ideas.
