vbox FreeBSD & VirtualBox

It has been a long time since I've used VB, and then it was in the linux world, but what I remember is that screen mode changes and shared folders required a binary-only guest extensions module that I had to download from Oracle. I've learned to like, or at least tolerate, qemu for my virtualization needs instead.

I don't use the shared folder feature, I use sftp, cli or in a gui file manager if using a DE.
All the needed FreeBSD VB packages are available for ver 15.1

I'm reading it the other way around, FreeBSD guest on Virtualbox.
It's not stated what the host OS is. It's FreeBSD in the VirtualBox VM from the post, but no mention of the host. I'm hoping FreeBSD otherwise there's more likely to be an incomplete answer if anything FreeBSD specific is impacting that end.

Also, set the VMs display to VboxVGA or VboxSVGA, it will default to VMSVGA which doesn't work.
Good advice, in case the user misses the package post-install message:
Code:
 % pkg info -D virtualbox-ose-additions-72
...
Where Guest Additions are installed:

1. prefer VBoxSVGA

2. do not enable 3D acceleration (doing so will invisibly
   lose the preference for VBoxSVGA)

You may ignore the yellow alert that encourages use of VMSVGA.
