Suse is on sale it seems. And even before they were not exactly German company. Similar with Ubuntu. Some consortium or what not is deciding i.e. BlackRock.
Suse is trying to shift towards Kubernetes with heir microOS.
They even ditched their best asset the YAST. Seems like they are not interested in endpoint devices.

SUSE is not for sale. It's a German company. MicroOS is openSUSE. SLE Micro is indeed used for containers. SLES will continue to support traditional workloads.

Alas it is offcially more of a Luxembourgh company....probably for tax purposes...I heard taxes in Germany are brutal.

Very nice. If someone wonders in to the vicinity of the most magical European city of Prague. You are welcome - even lodging can be arranged for house trained folk.
10 hours of fuel efficient drive from Brussels by car. 4 hours to 2 days by plane, depending on the condition of work force in the Brussels airport or 15 hours and gazzllion of euros by train - 1 hour wait for cennecting train in Cologne and 4 hours taking bus from Nuremberg because Apache indians took out the rails or something?

FYI. On Monday TESLA FSD Supervised was certified to drive in Czech Republic. Belgium and Netherlands already have that. But through Germany or Poland or Austria you will have to pretend to hold the wheel.

By necessity, because us street walking buggers are often the only ones being there to tax. Mercedes Benz, for example, pays less tax than the cleaning lady that works the corridors. When you add up all the "social safety abuse" for a year you arrive at a number that the tax evaders have stolen when many are still drunk from new year partys.

I went to Prague only once by now, and it was sadly in the middle of the tourist season. So most memories are about streets so packed that you are more inclined to think of a football stadium than a magical city. When would be a good time, so the phone stick waving types are maybe in hibernation?

As a long time gov employee I can assure you every euro of tax is worse than throwing it in to Baltic sea. Fish can't at least further hamper your productive ability by creating new rules requiring lawyers or giving it to their "friends" and/or voters - either directly or through Mercedes Benz employing them on obsolete factory line.

For emptied Prague you have to wait for another pandemic.
At night it is OK and magical. Or anytime outside of summer time is manageable, I think.
Though I would say the phone stick forest is only in like 2 streets and one bridge. There is plenty of views and streets without tourists which are even more magical because of that.

Beer is still cheaper than water. Pickpockets are less of a problem somehow - people even wear their backpacks on their backs in public transport....to my disdain (I was taught good manners dictate to sling it off there). And even though junkies are quite more prevalent, they are not aggressive and other usual suspects, "youth" and "new Germans" are a rarity - so a lonely girl can walk around at night.
Alcohol is a problem only with tourists and Ukrainian refugees. It is considered a shame here not be able to walk yourself home from pub.

It is not well known but Czechs have relatively (on par with better states in USA bar open carry states) good gun laws. Criminals have to count that in and tourists / feudal Japanese peasants can experience shooting range - there are like 3 in Prague alone.
 
If the EU operates like everybody else I am confident money or other compensation is influencing the choice.

I have watched engineering decisions being made by the guy who signs the check, not the engineer or the experienced user.

Very important bureau (don't want to dox myself). They fired IT chief for something...probably not sharing the spoils with the right people.
Next day and I mean literally next morning, he came in with visitor's badge to sign contract for company he awarded it just weeks prior.

Having said that. Engineers tend to forget efficiency is not just about watts and bandwith.
But the trouble with modern CEOs is they have very short term time preference.

Ultimately I blame the system of money creation. Besides being a scam (paper out, wealth in + interest OR bailout) or rather the scam of century.
It's only seeming positive of enough cheap credit results in Brains being wasted on BS projects and quick money grabs.
Which (the money speed light velocity) has connotations in how the companies are (mis)managed. And can be traced to the stagnation of tech. No new breakthrough tech was invented after the 70's. UNIX, nuclear, laser, DNA, maglev, Concorde and even the Ai is just iteration on already existing research from 70's.

You can blame the hippie spoiled boomers for the stagnation but I am telling you it is how the money is created is to blame. People adapt to that.

If he made and makes his money by producing something, not just shuffling bribes or baiting people in to hazard, I do not care he pays no taxes - he created real wealth in the world and is net positive.
Can't say that about bureaucrats.

Funny how we supposedly tax stuff we want less off (like alcohol or tobacco) and then we tax income and even wages.

I am happy for the entrepreneurs to take the initial risk and time to set it up, provide me with tools, compensate me for my time/skill and then enjoy whatever profits they achieve for organizing bringing useful stuff in to the world.
I have no skills or inclinations to do that instead of them. Yeah we all did it, even our dead ancestors played part, but for practical purposes no need to be greedy and claim $ above what was negotiated as compensation.
Any other setup is hardly "fair" or producing results.

Alas if they make their money by fraud or baiting fellow humans in to hazard, they should not be merely taxed more - they should be flogged, stripped of titles and all wealth and possibly shot out of airlock.

btw all species are dependent for their ultimate survival on our rather brisk tech development. Our planet can be wiped out any time by some event which already happened million years ago and certainly will die one day with our Sun. The window might not be large. Western civilization (including NEast Asia) is dying out rather quickly and the rest of humanity does not show signs of catching up.

Current Economic system as bad as it is, will not be improved by taxing the productive citizens.
But what I noticed, the motivation to do that has more to do with tearing the system down than anything else. Same goes for mass immigration - humanitarian obfuscation shielding the tactic to disrupt the system by social and economic strain by comrades from so callled Global South.
What comes after are usually some nonsense idealistic setups on paper in conflict with even basic laws of nature, let alone human psyche i.e. suited only for hive insects - mindless, sterile and subservient to queen.

If we are going to talk about me:
I am quite outside of the Overtone window of current system - Parasitic universal suffrage Oligarchy propped up by the scam of fractional reserve central banking cartel where ownership-responsibility is hiding behind another government FIAT of corporation concept, which for reasons of not losing power is turning us in to Brasil - actual, not movie.

You praise the one thing also bad about system, which upholds it - taxing the productive people - but want to tear it all down and replace it with WHAT, Mr. substance ????. Proving my point about motivation for these taxation policies.
"from everybody according to his ability to anybody according to his need" just does not work, is against laws of thermodynamics and totally wrecks human motivation and fairness, making everyone miserable but few on top - but they are miserable by nature anyway.
Or is something else you seem fit to organize our economic activity? Tell me more.

Capitalism is the only system that has lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty.

Wealth is not energy. Wealth can be created and destroyed. When someone creates wealth he's not stealing from anyone. The idea that only labor creates value has long been discredited. See the labor-theory of value.

If we're to tax billionaries, let's tax loans backed by liquid assets. Loans creates money out of thin air, adding to inflation. Money is debt.

Bureaucrats are the worst species because they tax us on everything and yet they always turn a loss. And yes, I also think that the worst problem we have right now is inflation... Having experienced hyper-inflation, I dunno why Europeans don't notice that the Euro has lost +40% of its value relative to gold since COVID-19 and +80% since its creation.

Rich people own anything but money. The problem that is in our hands to solve is getting education on financial & economic subjects early on because they won't this teach at school.
