Note that rm -r work wouldn't work as intended on flavorized ports.

For example, on x11/nvidia-driver, work-xorg is created for default flavor (xorg), while work-xlibre would be created instead for xlibre flavor.

This behavior is defined in Mk/bsd.port.mk.

And I believe make clean instead of rm -r work would work.

Another note would be that if there are any files having schg flag set (as far as I know, happened on ports-mgmt/sccache-overlay before, now already fixed), you'll need to chflags -R noschg for ${WRKDIR}.

make clean is the way
just as drsnx60 mentioned, I also build with root
su -
make install clean
or if the package is already installed
make reinstall clean

the clean will delete the work folder after.

It WAS true befor FLAVOR is introduced.

But afterwards, default ${WRKDIR} is NOT promised to be work, but work-$FLAVOR} for flavorized ports.

And make clean in ports directories supports both.

SDDM lists a "user session" which needs either an .xinitrc in the user's
home directory, or as a fallback, xterm. In order to use the "user session"

Isnt xinitrc only for X11, on wayfire/wayland what should be used?

Yes, ~/.xinitrc is for X11.

Wayland has fatal design flaw that doesn't have way for compositor-agnostic configurations. So any low-level configs like selecting primary GPUs, screen resolutions and so on are mandated to be configured per-compositor. (wlroots is a toolkit to implement compositor, so there can be some wlroots-specific configs that take effect for all wlroot-based compositors, but NOT ALL COMPOSITORS ARE WLROOTS BASED.)
This is quite annoying when looking for "which compositor fits my needs?" and try one by one. Need to study "always from scratch". Fatal.

So you may need to set configurations in ~/.config/wayfire.ini or ~/.config/wayfire/wayfire.ini and/or wlroots-specific environment variables for Wayfire.

You can copy /usr/local/share/examples/wayfire/wayfire.ini into your ~/.config/wayfire.ini or ~/.config/wayfire/wayfire.ini and customize it as you need.
