I compiled https://github.com/nomic-ai/gpt4all yesterday on FreeBSD, it wasn't straightforward, as I'm sure is often the case with Qt applications not native to FreeBSD. But I'm not going to port it because it's just nasty.

I don't even understand why there's no standalone app with simple but nice UI to use with your own llama server. Wouldn't that be nice?

What we get instead is either a really nasty GUI app for dummies or a package that you can only use in a browser.

Is it because everyone is just coding their own thing nowadays? Do you people just write your own GUI to work with local models?

Why do you think you need a GUI? And what's wrong with a webUI? It's as close to a GUI as you can get without having to resort to QT, GTK or some other toolkit. WebUI would work with any decent browser across a multitude of platforms.

GUI for storing convos and formatting and whatnot. What's wrong with webUI? Well, what's wrong with GUI?

Anyway, it's an application that's waiting to be written, I think.
