Seeing the intelligent things people do, makes people aware of their own imperfection. In decent people this generates the wish to improve themselves. In non-decent people it generates silly ideas like behaving as suckers was cool.
So, most tend to see only the stupid things others do. Looking down on others makes themselves feel superior effortless, because they don't need to do anything themselves at all, especially not improving their brains.
All they need to do is to find others being even dumber as theyselves. Which in a society that name stupid things as cool, things improving intelligence as uncool, and media that lives on selling imbeciles and idiocy constantly ain't that hard.
