Solved Homura

Hey there!

I was wondering: Time ago I was starting with FreeBSD and suddenly this application came out. It is supposed to be a bit like Lutris on freeBSD (but for what I remember, it felt more like the GUI for winetricks). In any case, I couldn't use it for much, as my computer at the time is severely underpowered.

Then I stopped using FreeBSD for years, and now that I got a "new" machine (2011 laptop tbh), I decided to come back to FreeBSD.

I went to install it, but noticed it is not on the repos anymore. I looked for any info of what happened, but I can't find anything. Just some articles getting all excited about its release and then radio silence.

So what happened? Is this project unmantained? Is there some sort of disagreement or drama? I am just curious and wonder if I should care further about installing it or not.

Hey, thanks! I am still a bit confused of what happened to Homura (or if this is just a rename, as it has the same theme on its naming). I honestyl couldn't find any info. The UI is better to what I remember Homura having, and saves the nuisance of manually creating different wine instances, so cool!

After a few naming iterations, I've settled on the current one, and I apologize for any previous confusion.

Think of it as a versatile helper, akin to Winetricks but with expanded capabilities.

While initially inspired by Lutris and focused on gaming, its scope has broadened to try to support a wider range of general programs.

Hey, thanks for your work! At the end of the day I was not aware because of my long stay away from FreeBSD.

One thing I noticed is that I don't seem able to install applications outside the list -or add new entries. I guess this is intended?

None of the applications I tried work either: I don't blame Mizuma, but the fact that I am using an HD3000 and first gen I5, so I can't imagine much stuff working. I am not sure this thing supports modern directX, or even Vulkan!

But if there is any way of contributing scripts or configs, I can invest a bit of time experimenting tho.

The list is dynamic, meaning that whenever you save a file of your desired application and place it within the library folder, it will automatically be reflected the next time the list will be used.

It would be advisable to first verify whether Wine is functioning properly, for instance, by running a simple command such as winecfg.

I suspect that the i386 component of Wine may not be installed, which Wine would typically prompt you to install. (Since you told that it was a long time ago, you may don't know about it.)

Yes, thanks for the tips. I did install the 32bit libs, but my .wine was 64 bits. I removed it all and created the default .wine as a 32bit prefix. Now Mizuma installs all I want to install.

It is a really cool software piece: The only thing I miss is not being able to add my own launchers: but what is in there works wonderfully. and I really appreciate the UI

PS: I noted the $HOME/.local/share/Mizutamari/Library containing the config files. I am assuming that if I get one as a template and add my own stuff I can add extra entries, I just can't think anything rn I need to install 😅
