The following (standard) awk script properly parses csv files from excel/banks etc. I have used it for years in many scripts:

I'm actually quite tired of all the AI focused threads on the bsd forums. Intelligent people understand the dangers, yet intelligence and business interests never seem to co-exist well...and at the rate we are going, shortly there wont be any...
Oh, and perhaps to clarify a bit, LinuxKPI (required for the DRM video drivers) and linux are two separate things. One is not related to the other. linux (and its 64 bit counterpart) is for Linux userland compatibility, LinuxKPI is for Linux...
You're going to need to build x11/nvidia-kmod with LINUX turned off. You cannot unload them because technically they're "in use" (there's a module depending on them, namely nvidia; which is autoloaded by nvidia-modeset)
When your bank can only generate a semicolon separated CSV, and not a comma separated CSV, you are prone to run into problems when a value/field itself contains a semicolon. I don't know if that will (ever) be an issue in this particular case...
Yes, it's due to the LINUX option of x11/nvidia-kmod. Note that the driver doesn't require linux to function, it works fine without it. It's merely there so the driver can be used with the Linux Compatibility layer. If you don't use the Linux...
No, CVE-2026-80591 is just a different kind of risk than CVE-2026-31431 ("copy fail") is. The later is way, way more dangerous. Lumping them together as if they are equal is just plain stupid.
To be clear, i don't think every use of AI was intentional. Maybe you ask a question on stack overflow, and some helpful guy asks some LLM for an answer and you take that then as a third party without doing anything on your own. We would need...

Just to pile on, on the front page there are 7 HTML errors and 40 warnings along with 4 CSS errors and 121 warnings.
This is the first time I've had a look at it and I've only spent a few minutes. It's not horrible but I wouldn't have done a...
If you only look at any CVE, yes. But one CVE is not like the other, there's a certain amount of risk involved, or not. Or how easily it's exploited, or not. If there's active exploits in the wild, or not. If it can be remotely done, or not. Etc...
sko Many thanks for pointing that out!
The problem was that when importing I didn't pay proper attention to the delimiters and spaces and commas were included. In Polish currency ',' is a seperator as in '9,99' is used instead of '9.99' which is...

Misheard lyrics may be funnier. For years I thought Michael Jackson, when singing, Keep up with the Force don't stop/Don't stop till you get enough" was singing "Get up, to the Post Office/And drop that letter off". As we seem to have lots of...
rbranco, I don't know where you are, But here, in the US, while some people think that's what it is, many use it as an excuse to destroy nature, or bully others. As far as making victims, here in the US, they're great at that. But they like to...
Here are eight transactions. ';' is the column seperator. The last column is the transaction number. It is virtually impossible to line up the transaction amounts in the same column.

Looking at the text file extracted from the PDF I can identify what would be start of a new row as a line starting with 'Date'.
How would I export such a section as a row in a file for later parsing via awk?
Came across the FreeCore project earlier. It seems to be a revived version of the TrueNAS Core 13.3 project but based on FreeBSD 15 and ZFS. I haven't used it but thought it might be of interest to those that like to build NAS solutions.
I have managed to extract the required text so graphics do not play a part. It's basically a matter of getting it formatted in a way that I could make a CSV file out of it.
Yes I have used the same and created a text file which looks useful, and was thinking of breaking it up with a lot of sed/awk scripts but the prospect is pretty intimidating, so am looking at a way getting some dedicated program to do it for me.
The pdfplumber project's README has an example. It creates an CSV file with info on every object in a PDF file.
So, that intermediate CSV can be used to get the actual CSV with pandas, which I've never dealt with.
You can produce the dataframe you want with pandas.read_csv, it provides enough options for your use case
(I use it)
If you are only interesting at the csv itself, you could use pure python, the structure of the csv provided from your bank...

Has anyone ever tried converting a PDF to CSV?
The PDF has a list of my bank transactions. I'm trying to import my transactions into a spreadsheet. I have downloaded a CSV file, but I get far too many columns which are difficult to identify. The...
I am not aware of any AI generated code that has entered FreeBSD yet. But people use it for code review, bug hunting and the like, including security bug hunting.
In terms of hype distros; I was actually quite amazed at the marketing reach of Bazzite. Every kid on reddit is trying to use it, I even see it on LinkedIn. I looked into it.

FYI: My script here lists installed ports/pkgs in category/portname@flavor format, one per line, with a feature to omit specified leaves from generated list.
