I follow the thread "Introduce yourself, tell us who you are and why you chose FreeBSD" because I enjoy reading the posts of the new members and to welcome them by at least clicking like.
This one is from today...
I've personally been using php83 without any problems with nextcloud. So, you can update at least that far. I feel like I had a reason for not using php84, but I can't remember why and whatever it was could be a non-issue now.
Being a noob again killing Cows was kind-of fun :p (testing out live streaming on FreeBSD with OBS Studio)

For yt-dlp I did also try to use the deno package to no avail. So I tried node also to no avail. I also tried to build each from ports. I recall one failed and the other I stopped caring mid way through because it was taking so long, sort of like...
xlibre pkg seems good on 16.0-CURRENT :D (GW2, wine-devel 11.3; evdev xorg.conf forced)
Having XLibre's Intel DDX installed had X not start and report some unwind error (was fine installed and xorg.conf-forced on Xorg), but removing it and...

MidnightBSD has already decided to change their license to prohibit use in California due to the Digital Age Assurance Act. Will FreeBSD be doing the same?

Has anybody managed to compile LLVM20 or LLVM21 port with Flang enabled? If so, did you define any flags and how much ram did you have at compilation? Is it possible to get binary package with Flang enabled or get back the separate Flang binary...
I always disable those. For those interested, e.g., you might want to put Windows 11 on a Bhyve VM, Tom's Hardware has a good article on removing the TPM requirement when installing Windows 11...
They are trying this with the PC for a long time. I remember the Pentium boards that never heard of USB-boot while Norton Ghost had a 16-bit DOS USB driver to be able to restore a partition with only a bootfloppy. At 1 point they gave up because...
Black Adder--darn you fernandel now I have the theme song in my head. Did you set me up with a "clever plan?" Scenes of it are running through my head now. "That's not a head. That's a pumkin".
drhowarddrfine, how did you like that movie? I...
As was said towards the beginning of this thread, the bill's already passed. On Governor Newsom's site you can't even leave a comment about it that I saw, there are limited means of web commumication.
I do wonder if it's worth writing a snail...
Dr Who - you are like them or you are hate them. There are no other options. I think I saw so so many...but I didn't miss any episode of The Black Adder.
Weeell, hold on a second.
Some of us use open source software specifically because this cannot happen against the will of a sufficient fanbase of such software. You can never really take it away.
The issue at hand here is that software with...
fernandel, Yes, that's a classic. I saw it quite awhile ago, when I was still doing martial arts. One of my favorites of his was Yojimbo. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055630/

Well, Newsom ain't gettin' my vote for president now. And seriously folks, that might matter enough to him so that if enough of us protest against this, he might be against it too. (I don't even know what Newsom's view on it is.)

I was too brief in my post. Yes, you can run claude code in emacs terminal.
But I was talking about gptel, which is its own interface for integrating LLMs with Emacs, and to use it with Anthropic you have to use the API...
Ok. Here's a Japanese film. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0455577/

Youtube calls it, Turtles are Fast Swimmers, I'd add in Surprisingly Fast, but it doesn't matter.
My wife asked me to watch it, I thought I'd be...
Well, I'm in there. Cover me.
I am moderately miffed that they effectively restrict my choice of IDE. If I use one of their UIs or Visual Studio then I can run off the monthly plan. If I want Emacs I have to use their API plan.
I agree that a trailer is usually more informative than IMDB. But, I'm no movie buff, and IMDB might have more information for those who can tell a director's or actor's style. And as I type, I realize I haven't seen too many movies I'd share...
I cringe when I hear the word woke. What is "being woke"? Is it putting a convicted felon in power, thinking he won't felon and being surprised when he does? That's certainly woke.
Is it having empathy for people of other races, sexes, sexual...

you also didn't argue from anything other than how you feel when you get random text back from chatgpt. it's impossible to find things on the internet now because every query results in slop.
In a meeting yesterday I heard from somebody who had to wait a while every time he hit a limit.
They can also downgrade you to cheaper models. And restrict you during rush hours so that users of more expensive plans come first. Generally there...
Hello,
I've been using Linux and BSD since the early 2000s. I would really like to thank the entire FreeBSD 15 team for delivering such a high-quality desktop system. I run FreeBSD 15 with Wayland (Plasma), and it absolutely screams. There is no...
Hi, I'm runit. Also Ashley.
I've recently gotten into the BSD family of unixes after a long history with mostly Debian and Fedora (10+ years) primarily because I am concerned with security issues (that I perceive) in the Debian project, as well...
This is a weird way of investing the little developing power these fellows (OpenIndiana's developers) have:
