What is the version you want to build?
In ports we have qemu-devel at 10.1.20251130.
You will have to install a big number of run and build time dependencies before you can compile qemu on your own.
I like the reference to vi - the text editor that is a legend.
It's written in the days of legends when the general attitude was like "We want to do an operating system but to do that we first need to do a programming language. So we did the C...
Those geniuses did not know about the RFC that set the date for "unknown birthdate" and claimed that there were tons of people who are >120 years old collecting money. Same with elections. There is a huge problem with implied boundary conditions...
Indeed. And it is a really great tool for that. Rarely its brought up because analysis, documentation and testing is seen as "boring" and doesn't really massage this current "AI Hype" on i.e LinkedIn but really is the more realistic outcome. AI...
Its probably because the code sprawl is so vast, and so boring that no-one else wants to do it.
The challenge is split into 2 parts:
Learning COBOL (easy)
Learning the existing system codebases (difficult)
I don't feel AI/LLMs are really up to...

The FreeBSD community was saddened this month by the tragic death of one of its most prolific contributors. We learned that Hans...
There are many options to back up your zroot zpool. You may read about zfs send to send a backup to a file to another zpool or zfs dataset but these are only good for off machine or offsite storage.
You can use zfs snapshots. The best approach...
Amazon's end game is to be the only gig in town, and their whole business model is designed to make that happen. As a result, I don't shop there anymore, even if I end up paying more with a small independent vendor.
People need to wake up and...
Diablo III mostly works!
Battle net client is broken (can't log-in; crash dialog spam, most windows don't render), but restoring D3 from backup seems fine, and it has Bnet email/pass login at main menu (likely don't need Bnet client if...
There is a book, a bit dated by now, but still useful, by Mike Lucas and only about $10.00 USD. https://www.tiltedwindmillpress.com/product/fmzfs/
If you're not familiar with Mr. Lucas's work, hopefully, as you get deeper into FreeBSD, you'll...
I have no reason to do any Fortran programming anymore, except that I have a copy of the Snoopy calendar program for IBM mainframe on my FreeBSD laptop. It worked for a while but recent versions of GCC Fortran and LLVM Fortran fail to understand...
A number of years ago there was a couple of books titled "Megatrends" which was a fascinating series that looked into world trends--NOT predictions. In it, the author talked about "high tech, high touch" and that people liked the idea of being...

You should be able to jump from 13.5 to 15.0 in one go. But again, just make sure you have the latest patch release of 13.5, due to this bug...
The only reason this PR isn't public is the automation for any PR targeting the "Security" component, which makes a lot of sense in general, as such PRs often contain detailed vulnerability/exploit information.
But then, there's not really...
Well, the success of Common Lisp in the air fare search domain isn't just because of prototyping. It is because you can make Common Lisp code (in SBCL) run almost as fast as C code. Badly written C code, but nontheless.
Yeah, that brings up a 2016 story of a disgruntled dev who refused to rename a node.js module even in the face of a threat of a lawsuit... Just un-published that module - and broke the Internet.
or when Linus Torvalds himself got sent to...

That is the onboard software. And yes, the management really screwed the pooch in the last decades. They are not the only ones, mind you. Some planes better get remodelled as something else before they remake themselves into a lawn ornament.
Competent, trustworthy, cheap. Pick two, you can't have all three.
Also, I noticed in that linked Reddit commentary that sometimes, a good defense means rebuilding the entire system to NOT depend on a component (xz/LZMA in this case). Now that's...
This has got nothing to do with "built it right for FreeBSD." The exploit inserted a blob (key) that made use of the fact that sshd on Linux systems using systemd, needed some way for sshd to be managed by systemd. OpenSSH needed to be linked...
This looked most interesting.

From the linked article:
Some Linux distros modify OpenSSH to depend on SystemD
SystemD depends on xz-utils, which uses GNU IFUNC
Ergo, xz-utils ends up in the address...
I saw this recent video mentioned on HN and (having watched it) thought it was pretty good:

Since the creation of C and C++, there have been many different programming languages in vogue. None have outclassed C or C++. So, even the disk will end, and the favorites will still be there.
Yeah I saw that on the man page too, but there is no /etc/zfs/zpool.cache hence the need for the correct "-U" switch for the zdb command to work as expected and the actual default in fact seems to be /boot/zfs/zpool.cache.
1 case in Dutch that I know is a postal code followed up by a town name on a letter or package. No idea where it originates from but it's done a lot. It may have to do with the code format xxxx yy that contains a space itself but should be...
Same here though I don't do it anymore.
Took typing class in high school with Mrs. Fischer. Was only one of three guys in the class. The rest were all girls cause girls would just become secretaries, right?
