To add. Much complexity of C++ can be safely ignored and code written using it can be very simple.
... just the culture is a little warped and people choose not to keep things simple with C++ ;)
Apple's VM solution (xhyve / HyperKit) is based on FreeBSD's Bhyve.
Haiku's wifi stack is basically a FreeBSD compatibility layer to use FreeBSD wifi drivers.
(I believe, many of the popular drivers (i.e iwx, iwm) originated from other BSDs...
Actually, these 'duplicates' are not duplicates from the filesystem perspective. They are hard links to the same file (see ln), which means that an internal filesystem object for data in the file is stored in one single instance and has multiple...
I know that all BSD operating systems do share a significant amount of code and some code is regularly imported back and forth. For instance, FreeBSD frequently imports some utilities (mtree) and manual pages from NetBSD. ssh from OpenBSD is...
Hi checkpoint,
yes, while I was researching the problem, I encountered both variants. I am not knowledgeable to understand the reason, maybe hardware-related?
On a different subject, can you let me know the model A-number? of your MacBook, I...
On my MacBook, to which I installed 13.4-RELEASE/i386 recenty, I had to do the opposite: I had to install xf86-video-intel to get Xorg working properly. On that setup if Xorg binds directly to i915kms.ko it fails to render some fonts and hardware...
I'll just drop off the kids and head to the train station tomorrow morning. There was no ticket for me, and I had no space in my schedule anyway. Maybe in the afternoon on the plaza at the entry, depends on several things...
Although this is 5-ish years 'old', it's still relevant. This worked a treat on my HP ProBook 440 G7 with an Intel GPU and FreeBSD 15.0 today.
Thank you!
I think other threads have pointed out the problem is having a FreeBsd-kmods and FreeBsd-ports repo; the -kmods is older and if you are on 15.0 not needed. Solution was to edit the pkg conf to say that -kmods was "not enabled".
Hi checkpoint,
thank you again. I have changed the title of the post as solved.
The problem was twofold: (i) the xf86-video-intel seemed to have interfered, so I uninstalled it, and (ii) my dyslexia.
Kindest regards,
M
Thank you so much!
I don't know why, I constantly read about the versions, it makes lots of sense, and 5 minutes later I forget everything.
I accidentally removed /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/FreeBSD.conf, and replaced it with your recomendations...
You are running 15.0-RELEASE based on traditional distribution sets (that is: just as one normally would with 14.x-RELEASE and before).
In 15.0-RELEASE we only have FreeBSD-ports and FreeBSD-ports-kmods as remote repositories for packages from...
Yes, this is not quite accurate. In FreeBSD there are 3 main configuration files:
/etc/rc.conf -- enable/disable system services and daemons.
/boot/loader.conf -- tunables that can be set ONLY at boot time, not later.
/etc/sysctl.conf -- tunables...
My mother says that I watched the moon landing... sitting on a table in our old living room ( I still live in the same house actually). I was about five months or at the time and unfortunately I cannot remember anything.
For me wake up works with Plasma Wayland (Nvidia in my case).
In order to have power management working I had to unblock a service after clicking the bottom right battery icon (a laptop in my case). Not very intuitive, maybe it helps.
Hi,
Could someone provide me with the pf rules to allow the following into the internal network for people who want to play a game?
I'm looking for:

I found out why this happens...

For some light WMs with a BSD heritage there is:
awm - Created by FreeBSD cofounder (Jordan Hubbard)
spectrwm - Created by an OpenBSD developer marco@
calmwm - One of the default WMs in OpenBSD
progman - Created by an OpenBSD developer jcs@
freezr, I didn't know that about Lumina. I prefer window managers to desktops, but I like to have a desktop available in case I drop dead and my wife needs to access my computer, I may give that a try.
I guess this is a place to spam my own page on it, https://srobb.net/fbsd14_15.html, where I cover the steps. Most of them were given me by other people after it wasn't working for me. Once I had the extras figured out, updating with pkgbase...
