Oh, to further fuel the confusion, the bug only seems to be fixed in 13.5 and 14.3, there's no mention of 15.0 in the advisory. Could be it didn't apply, but VuXML seems to imply it does...
Kernel wasn't updated, only the module. Unfortunately all the pkgbase packages get rebuild as a whole with each update. So the pkgbase kernel package does show 15.0-RELEASE-p1, while a freebsd-update system would not.
It's a bit of an issue...
I don't think it was this community alone, but we shall not let get that little detail in the way of celebrations.
And let's see how long that switch will work as advertised and when it will have a clause that you volunteer all your data you...
Not easy to do. You can prevent them from being echo'd on screen (stty -echo), but there isn't anything that would show the familiar asterisks when you enter a password. Possible to do but requires quite a bit of scripting to accomplish.
Or is...

You don't need necessarily a iso image to get the freebsd-dist files (kernel.txz, base.txz, etc.), they are not included in the >=15.0 images anyway. They can be downloaded individually from the same repository you got the iso image...
I would suggest using a memstick image:
memstick
This can be written to a USB memory stick (flash drive) and used to do an install on machines capable of booting off USB drives. It also supports booting into a "livefs" based rescue mode. There...
It is. That's the maximum size for a double-density CD. Note that disc1 is a CD image, not a DVD image.

Erichans much thanks to you and your help with all pkgbasify questions. Are you one of the ones who developed it? I'll have to give it another try this afternoon, if I have time.
No, it isn't.
Running a non-package based FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE, all it needs to get it set up corrrectly for a packaged base is to enable it. You can do that properly by adding in
/usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/FreeBSD.conf :
FreeBSD-base: {...
Mike Lucas does have a book on hosting your own mail server. Introductory chapter here. (Link goes to a kickstarter I think). https://mwl.io/archives/22653

lost_in_c please cut out the political spin. I don't think you know what you are talking about, but I recognize the rethoric.
Please go visit some places around the world, stay for some time, get to know the people and culture. Then take a good...
The topic was that protonmail had to flee for protecting the privacy of its customers,
then I added that this solution may not last for much time.
Nice for agreed communication.
But for normal, casual private communication, not shared with...
Yeah, I see a bunch of "security concious" people using it and just chuckle that they have to use this crappy Javascript-centric web interface on their web browser (completely unsecure things). All the variables are decrypted at this point too so...

The problem occurs if you try to run a Makefile in this jail which depends on the version of FreeBSD it is running under and determines this via uname, then it will not behave correctly.
I have just come across a problem whilst trying to build mfsbsd in a 14.3 jail under 15.0 which identifies itself as 15.0 through uname but the jail is running 14.3.
It looks like this environment is not going to work.
I see. There is nothing wrong and you have 14.3-RELEASE jail.
A jail runs only userland and the kernel is that of the host. The uname command take the version from the kernel (unless -U option is specified), and freebsd-version get the version...
I created the jail, testjail using the -r 14.3 parameter. Testjail was created and showed up under iocage list which also shows 14.3-RELEASE for this jail.
Subsequently, iocage console testjail logs me into the jail where the first message says...
Everyone now is just listening to compressed MP3s on low-wattage bluetooth speakers with SBC compression. No-one builds their own Hi-Fi systems with good speakers and amps anymore. Almost no-one listens to lossless or analog anymore. Even though...
I'm just trying to find my way around creating jails using IOCAGE and tried
iocage create -r 14.3-RELEASE hoping that it creates a 14.3 jail, but when I go into it uname -a shows
15.0-RELEASE FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE...
I don't know but if you look up higher in the thread, you'll see user petan's method that worked for him and at least once, worked for me. I *think* (hopefully, someone will correct this if I'm wrong) pkgbase is an option if doing a fresh...
we've never used iocage, but our vnet jails have an lo and an epair1a interface. the b side of the epair goes into the bridge on the host, which bridges to our DMZ VLAN. So, this is to be expected for a vnet jail. Also, the a/b side difference is...
No, it is all Wildwuchs.
Should all be S-expressions but alas people do not see the light.
If you can find the appropriate places in the source code it is always a good idea to read that. Best education possible. On FreeBSD it is particularly...
I may have posted this before, but I've just tested it in a new IOCAGE jail to see if it works and it does.
If anyone is interested in OpenWrt, please feel free to try it.

I'd be happy to make it the pkgbasify thread, but it seems I'm the only one having problems. Fortunately, it's on a vm thrown together just to try to learn to use the pkgbasify method.
I have cleaned up my packages after a long time.
Now my mouse cursor does not move anymore in SDDM. I can type and enter the password for the session though.
When I start Plasma (Wayland) the mouse works fine.
I have attached my sddm.log.
Maybe...

Now, trying on a new test vm, firstly it keeps trying to get base_release_3 and also, once I pkgbasify the system /usr/sbin/pkg complains that some shared objects aren't found.

I resist till now to read email with GUI client or web browser.
For me proton is no alternative for normal mail because no normal smtp / imap.
I suspect the best solution would be that more people use encryption to be more independent of...
Well, it looks like you don't just need multiple video streaming services - now you need multiple LLM subscriptions.
For me, Github Copilot now rejects all queries that it deems not related to Github. Mind you, it doesn't just require a code...
It depends on what you mean by "route". If you mean it in the colloquial sense of "send", then it sure is implementable, as we've shown in this thread. If you mean it in the technical sense of an IP route, then no, routing happens at a layer...
