Why its not allowed to openly discuss XLibre X11 server on the FreeBSD Forums? First - removal (instead of 'just' locking - which is also really bad) the older XLibre So long Xorg, thanks for all the fish, hello XLibre thread. Copy available...

The "problem" isn't the tool itself, the problem is all the people buying into the advertising that this particular tool can do advanced work unsupervised, that you (the welder of the tool) don't need technical and domain knowledge to use it. And...

To wit: we are not going to close or lock 'the next XLibre thread', if and when that arrives. So long as it stays technical, manageable, within the rules, and informative. If not, it goes the way of the dodo, whoever posts (in) it. Plain and simple.

Aha, so it is perhaps similar to the Raspberry Pi setup - the UEFI / EDK2 bootloader is a secondary bootloader, stored on a partition on the medium you are booting from? If so, what is the primary bootloader? u-boot?
  • T
Ok, then you should explore the command line of that bootloader (if it has one). Some (but not all) UEFI implementations provide a UEFI shell. The commands are standardized https://mundobytes.com/en/Useful-commands-for-the-UEFI-shell/ Otherwise...
  • T
What bootloader does it have? u-boot? If so, poke around in the u-boot setup (you probably will need a serial console for that) with u-boot commands. some commands that might give you info printenv boot* (boot-something) bootflow help (if u-boot...

Following up, it seems to be just one of the OS mirror disks with issues. I was able to unplug the failed drive, boot the FreeBSD usb stick image and do `zpool import -o readonly=on -R /tmp/zfs <pool>` and my files are then available in...

Considering that Google reassigned their best person from the C++ std committee to create Carbon that is pretty embarrassing. And that wasn't yesterday, this has been going on for years (after Google pet projects were rejected by C++).

I've just discovered that I had Ventoy set up with Secure Boot, but the W520 does not support Secure Boot, so if you are booting via Ventoy and have the problems mentioned, make sure the Secure Boot option is not enabled.

Well, Carbon is a Google project, and they are generally not friendly to OSes and architectures they don't target as primary users. So even if you port it to FreeBSD you probably have large amounts of diffs you have to maintain on your own...

I dunno. A major bottleneck around here is space in the house. I mostly stopped buying physical toys except computers, for good reason. I don't think I have 2 U free in any existing rack. Decisions, decisions.

Yeah they made some nice changes in 'recent' times like window snapping. I think the problem is the display of all the old nextstep/afterstep icons. I would routinely ditch the built in icons and use those, as windowmaker offers great management...

Yeah, that's another reason why I keep the old standard dot pitch machines like the X220 around, so I can continue using wmaker. On my 4K monitor I use kde plasma on wayland now of course, to get the high DPI support. I found I can still run...

The Mesa 2:90 goes for $800-1000 asking price in buy-it-now/store formats, plus shipping and sales tax. If there is ever one that pops up for free auction I'll probably pick it up. I like auctions better because if I beat somebody then I know...

I hear that for newly build amps Hiwatt clones such as Hi-Tone are actually better (but not cheaper). For guitar use. Hiwatt themselves are supposed to cut a couple corners now.

The 2:90 is not a guitar specific power amp. It should be suitable for full-range audio. [ETA: post overlap]
