They let guinea fowl roam the park by my house to keep ticks and other insects under control. They always show a great interest in my little shih-tzu dogs.
Guina fowl are so ugly they're cute.
I'm currently using Ubuntu Linux as desktop, and have been using FreeBSD (currently 14.3) in a VM for a while to get a feel for it, so far liking FreeBSD a lot but have decades of Linux "dependencies" to get rid of first. I used to run Solaris...
I am Manley Pager, just a simple man trying to make it through these difficult ages.

Yep, 6.5.0, launching from SDDM has been fixed! Next issue to work through is power management - SDDM does require restarting by hand if the monitor goes to sleep. (with service sddm restart, run as root) But at this point, I don't consider it to...
As a desktop user, out of Windows slowness frustration, and hopping to Linux (usually Debian) and Windows, back and forth, some years ago I don't remember exactly when, I tried FreeBSD 12. First, I was just curious. Then, I noticed how stable it...

OK. I first pkg delete nvidia*
Then did pkg install nvidia-driver. Still no nvidia-modeset module loaded.
I get the same error messages as previously.
Rebooted, and did all the above again.
STILL get the same error messages and nvidia-modeset...
Well, I read your comment at messages #17, thoroughly. Have you read my reply at message # 21?
I suppose there is something else which could cause version 580 of the Nvidia drivers to not work correctly, but if everything in version 580 is...

i actually had one of this when it wasn't totally obsolete
disk spininng up sounded like a fighter jet
the ciss driver (or one of its ancestors panic-ed) so i hacked it to boot
it had pentium pro and eisa buss
the ciss was an eisa card

Okay, under "Weird-looking" I dare to throw something really weird looking into the pool.
When you need more drives than your case can handle, you can either buy a new case, or
just create more slots:

Was it this?
That was my first computer! It had Windows 98 SE and Intel graphics (810 or 845). My friend had a SiS 620 computer that ran Crimsonland better and I tried just changing the driver under Device Manager to it 😆

I read about Radon baths. Supposedly expands your blood vessels, reduces inflammation and pain etc. The Soviets had a whole bunch of sanatoriums for such treatments. Look up Khoja Obi Garm & Tskaltubo. Also used in Europe. Here (in the US) any...
That's not what the graphs are telling me. The number of users has been growing quite steadily. It may have had some dips here or there, but overal the numbers are rising.
scottro had it mostly right.
The Forums started out not only because other forums failed or went away, but also because people at FreeBSD felt it needed its own community support beyond the mailing lists.
This was at a time when mailing lists...
Finally, I unmounted the MySQL databases, and now all three user datasets are separated from zroot/ROOT to the common zroot/DATA array.

OK. Success. X is now working. Here is what I did:
pkg delete nvidia*
The system them deleted all of the nvidia-580 files, 4 of them.
I then input the following:
pkg search nvidia
The result was a long list of available nvidia apps. The most...
That article presents the mainstream reasoning — that modern OSes only use two rings due to paging granularity and portability concerns. But my goal is quite the opposite.
Non-portability is intentional, not a flaw
Many OSes avoid segmentation...
OK. I'm going to begin again:
It seems obvious to me that the nvidia-modeset.ko module, which is required by X, is not being loaded.
Inputting pkg info nvidia* returns the following:
nvidia-driver-580.95.05
nvidia-kmod-580.95.05.1403506...

Our Dishwasher (Miele) had a five year warranty and has now been running without a hitch for 10 years.

I've never been interested in theming (GTK or QT), but I think there should be a setting that determines whether applications use a dark or light theme. The GTK theme you're using probably doesn't fully comply with these settings. I personally...

One more from history. The Jupiter Ace was the worlds first micro with FORTH in ROM, instead of BASIC. The design of the Forth ROM software was excellent. Like the ZX80, this was implemented in discrete TTL, no ULA, and it had the same crappy...
I just finished this one. It's an 18x5x14 inch case. The inside is a Dell SFF, RX 6400, 16GB DDR3, 250GB Sata SSD, Intel i7-3770 CPU, 300W inverter, 4A 12V charger, 12V 10AH LifePO4 battery. The interior top is made with MDF with 2MM mousepad...
I soon outgrew the ZX81 and got an Oric 1 which was another brilliant design (and of course I got an atmos a year later). This one was 6502 based and much higher build quality, in fact the build quality of these was excellent. Great machine...
I was going through some of my posts and stumbled upon this one. It has been an interesting year, I'm still on the same team, things are ok, at least I have a stream of work. The team is not well organized, so the backlog refinement doesn't...
hardworkingnewbie That's disgusting. I want one.
Until recently, I did all the cooking at home. I always separate eggs with my hands. Using a shell there's too much risk of puncturing the yolk.
Happily, I'm taking cooking up again in January.
