On my laptop I have three different BEs:
[5:24][fmc000@tu45b-freebsd ~]$ bectl list

FreeBSD-15.0-RELEASE - - 1.43G 2025-10-17 08:36
FreeBSD-15.0-STABLE - - 15.6G...
Just in case anyone finds themselves in the same situation after building emulators/vice, I wanted to share what I discovered.
At some point, the old joystick driver was removed from FreeBSD and the installation instructions in pkg-message no...
Hello.
After awkwardly using freebsd-update I received this message
jail: data: getpwnam root: No such file or directory
jail: http: /bin/sh /etc/rc: failed
(topic). Jail does not start. Any ideas on how to fix it?
I found the backup. But it...
I suppose if one wants to do forensic analysis,
Remove the drive from the machine. Install it in another machine, setting the read-only jumper. If no read-only jumper be careful to mount it read-only or better, use a forensic toolkit like...
You do know that you can very easily create one by using bectl or vermaden's beadm, right? I realize that if you're used to it being automatic, it can seem a nuisance, but for me I find it relatively easy to remember to type sudo bectl...
I asked grok, it seems, PXE support without "iPXE" software on legacy BIOS depends on the BIOS and on the
firmware of the USB-NIC. It mentions ASIX AX88772A/B/C. I have a ADMtek AN986 and that does not work without
iPXE.
Also, if the amounts stolen aren't large enough, forensic analysis won't be done. It costs time and expertise and it simply isn't done for petty crime. Unless somehow your case ties into a larger case.
Example from my country is the usual phone...
Side by side: X220 on left, T490 on right. Of course the X220 design and ergonomics are far superior, a much better keyboard and layout, and we don't have the stupid huge touchpad (why??!) of the T490, which I never use anyway, I always use the...
ZioMario I've re-read your first post and by info in it, you probably got phished. Go through browser history on all the browsers you accessed e-banking from.
Wouldn't using $5M device to break $5 system prohibit the launch from the get go ...
most likely it wasn't a firefox exploit
that's complicated stuff and freebsd is an irelevant desktop os / nobody perfects exploits for this
unless you are very high profile target and then the attacker won't buy videogames
I used till now a Samsung nc10 (Atom N270, 2 GB RAM). Not anymore usable because of web browser.
An X220 is under these conditions a supercomputer. Perhaps almost as portable as the nc10.
I did it:
freebsd-update -F -j data --currently-running 14.3 -r 13.2 upgrade
but the same:
root@six:~ # jexec data
root@data:/ # file /bin/sh
/bin/sh: ELF 64-bit LSB pie executable, x86-64, version 1 (FreeBSD), dynamically linked, interpreter...
KDE's kio-fuse seems broken on FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE. The point of this software is to make kio-mounted filesystems mounted in via Dolphin like SMB network shares accessible to applications that are not "kio-aware"; dragging a file into a...
Thanks! That pointed me to a solution. I didn't have to edit /etc/devfs.rules as I already had
[localrules=10]
add path 'cd*' mode 660 group operator
add path 'pass*' mode 660 group operator
add path 'xpt*' mode 660 group operator
from...
Perhaps there's a cultural thing here too. In the western tradition, certainly in the uk, we have a healthy culture of "combative robust discussion" 😁 . We slag each other off, raise all kinds of objections and outlandish points, call each...
Google says: "
To fix data in a FreeBSD jail, first ensure the jail's data is correctly mounted, then check the jail's userland and kernel versions, as they may differ. If there's a version mismatch, you may need to create a new jail template or...
Backup your configuration files (/usr/local/etc, /etc) and data (/home).
Create a list of your explicit installed packages pkg query -e %a=0 %n | sort > explicit_ports .
You could do a fresh install from scratch, if you wish now, directly jumping...
If running by hand, yes. All my users expect their pods be started at boot. To enable this we must,
usermod -a -G systemd-journal users_service_account
Then allow the service the pod runs under to linger after the users logs out:
loginctl...
Unfortunately, I have a server with an older FreeBSD version (version 13.0) with self-built packages created via poudriere. I haven't taken care of it for a while.
If I want to update from version 13 to 14, do I have to rebuild the packages for...
I'm encountering like this, too, but not 100% reproducible.
As I cannot provide enough info for certain developers, and also my issue dissappears when switching to another non-X vty and back, not filed PR.
Even if the first attempt doesn't help...
Someone clever discovered in PR 288337 that if you set sysctl kern.vt.enable_altgr=0 this problem goes away. It fixed it for me in one instance, now I just need to see if this fixes the mysterious issue of no keyboard input after my laptop wakes

I think we'd need some kind of design document to discuss the concept. For instance, in Linux rootless podman is an approach to set up systemd to allow users to interact directly with systemd without root privileges. I think what we need here is...

Oh yeah, AT&T. Hah.
I'm mostly upset at Verizon because they sent some salesperson to my home unrequested last week. They have questionable business ethics, even though it improved a lot since they separated from Vodaphone.

Anecdote: Many decades ago, I used the Watcom 32-bit environment on Windows 3.1. There, you could READ memory in many places, including the NULL pointer and similar small addresses. You could even write to...

For Android, I recommend using Emscripten/C++ and deploying via web browser and WebAssembly. The platform is becoming so locked down so that is probably the best solution for the future too. As a bonus, the same program will work on iOS too...
Depending upon what happens in the next year you may want to abandon having ANYTHING to do with android. They recently announced plans to lock-down app installation similar to the way apple IOS does, all apps must be from a verified source...
Just seen in that same discussion that they will also be "publishing the same demo with Sqlite and Quake translations.".
Quite interesting and I look forward to checking it out. If they are even 90% successful (C++ <-> C isn't 100% either), then...
