Nightly pam_authentication errors

As of August 20th I've started receiving theses messages in the daily email to root:
Code:
Aug 20 13:28:41 beethoven login[1237]: in prompt_tty(): caught signal 3
Aug 20 13:28:41 beethoven login[1237]: pam_authenticate(): Conversation failure
Aug 20 13:33:40 beethoven login[1237]: 2 LOGIN FAILURES ON ttyv1
Aug 20 13:33:40 beethoven login[1237]: 2 LOGIN FAILURES ON ttyv1, M-^\6^^<B6>M-^^M-^SM-^T#<A3>M-^VM-^S^OM-^O*#<A3><AA>^XM-^XM-^Q^^M-^^M-^S <A0>^OM-^O<E0>S<E0><D3>^O
I'm not sure what this means, but there is obviously a login error to ttyv1. It just started on August 20th, and I'm wondering if something changed and now my "sudo" commands are acting differently? Any thought? Thank you in advance.

Same problem here.
I can't switch to text console with Alt+ctrl+Fx from Xorg session.
If I'm killing my DM by hands I can see text login prompt, but all key presses leads to abnormal symbols output (cat walking on the keyboard, as SirDice said)
What can I do with this?

I won't speak for the other two who have reported this issue, but in my case, no. In my case, there was no additional text after "LOGIN FAILURE ON ttyv1" in the log file, but when I was able to switch to a text console (by killing xdm) the random text I saw there didn't resemble anything that I had entered anywhere else in any tty or pty.
