Recently I read about ZFS bug in different articles like this:

The Thanksgiving long weekend (23-26 November) in 2023 was an interesting one for OpenZFS, that I managed to land myself in the middle of.

I am not sure is this only in OpenZFS or it exists also in old 12.x FreeBSD versions?

It probably also exists in 12.x and its roots seem to be from long ago; the bug was hard to hit though. However, that is now obsolete because FreeBSD 12 is (as of Jan 1, 2024) no longer supported. More info in this thread, original OpenZFS issue - 15526

It exists in pretty much every ZFS back to 2012, and perhaps back to the beginning.

It was patched for 12.x in 12.4-RELEASE-p8. See FreeBSD-EN-23:16.openzfs for more info.

Well, according to the article, the bug existed originally from Sun ZFS (around 2006). Going by that, the bug has been existing for long before FreeBSD 11.x series let alone 12. At the same time, considering it has been around long, shows it was unlikely to ever see; until some other change finally made it "easier" to hit.

As is for any software, you should always assume there are other bugs waiting. In the end, it just matters you have a backup plan, so it doesn't come and bite you in the butt being unprepared.

This was fixed on FreeBSD a few weeks ago.
