But that means there is a need or desire to use such a thing against me and there is not. Why would any government be watching you, listening in on you, tracking you and, now, coming after you? Specifically in this case, they're not, but everyone seems to like to think they are.

NOTE: Mozilla/Gecko/Firefox should not be running, when you do this. When you're finished, simply fire up yer browser, go to the search-engine bar, and choose "manage search engines", and do what you wish. :)

They were targeted. Just like the target of these dragnets is certain bad people. That's what everyone is ignoring. What the target and purpose is. The purpose is not to investigate, track, follow everyone.

You're missing the point. Anyone may be targeted in the future, for any number of reasons. It's bad stuff(tm).

Yes, but on the other hand - how can you make that point clear to someone who is so far away from the last manifestation of such wrongs? Yes, I skip McCarthy here, reading up on that fellow should shake some people awake.

The Jews of Germany and the Netherlands thought nothing of giving the officials their religion. They had nothing to fear, at that point. They could not imagine that they, one day, would have to fear, and regret their compliance. You may want to take a tour of Auschwitz to get the second hand horror from what happened. But at the point where it started, no one thought about it. But reading up on McCarthy and the which hunt he stands for should also provide insightful. Who is bad and what is to hide gets decided later. Storing is done today.

In those days, the time from the "let's get the heck out of here' and the knocking on the door in the night was about 3 to 5 weeks. With the capacity of today, that would be 2 to 3 days, if you are lucky. So there is any reason to fight it, for the potential is extreme in the wrong hands. And that may be hands still to come to power - who knows today?
